Prompt: mark_pierre's (at gameofcards livejournal) Funny accident with fireworks
"You set my boat on fire, Potter, and it's a long walk back to Capeside."
Jo turns around from where she's standing on the deck, puts her hands on her hips and huffs in that way she does that's so adorable I don't think I'll ever tire of watching it. "They're sparklers, Pace," she tells me haughtily, as if I don't know what they are. "If our boat - " I grin at her emphasis on the word our " - is flammable enough a mere spark can burn it down, then maybe you're not the skilled craftsman you purport yourself to be."
I grab her by her waist and pull her close to me. Waggling my eyebrows, I tease, "Oh, I'm skilled, honey. At a lot of things."
I fall in love even more when she feigns disinterest. "I've yet to see evidence of that." Taking the opening she's so clearly offering, I lean in for the kiss. In the month we've been aboard the True Love, I've found Joey is more than a natural at kissing. She's a damn genius. How Dawson let her go, I will never understand.
Our kiss goes on, and when we finally break apart to catch our breaths, she lingers against me. "Well, maybe you are skilled," she admits with a devilish gleam in her eye, "At one thing."
This time it's my turn to grin, taking the bait. "Oh, babe, if you only knew." Potter rolls her eyes at the innuendo and returns to what she was doing before I interrupted her: laying out the blankets and pillows so we can watch the fireworks. We're anchored for the night, not far from shore. It's a perfect spot to watch the show off the Georgia coast.
Jo bends over to arrange the cushions, giving me a fine view of her pajama-clad ass. Pervert that I am, I take pleasure in letting her know it. I smack her butt and leer. "Y'know, Jo. The fireworks should be starting pretty soon - "
She shoots up and gives me the dirtiest look she can manage. God, I love this banter we have. "If you dare make one joke about us and fireworks," she threatens, "you'll be watching the show from overboard. If you're lucky, you might get to hold onto the side of the boat."
I put my hands up in mock surrender, laughing. "Okay, okay. You win." I pull her close again for another kiss. "I'd much rather hold onto you."
Once again, my love rolls her eyes. "Such the romantic," she sighs. I chuckle as we kiss yet again. When we part, I turn out the lanterns, and the darkness overtakes us. I climb under the covers next to her, and we warm up snuggling closer together. My arms are wrapped around her as she rests her head against my chest.
We're silent for awhile, just enjoying the feel of each other and listening to the waves against the hull, when finally Jo remarks, "The stars are bright tonight, aren't they, Pace?"
"Mmm," I reply, looking only at her. "Everything is perfect."
