Donna Noble was old. She was old and dying. They said they would find a cure, but all that technical stuff bored her. She would much rather be discussing of the rumours about Nurse Smith and Doctor Ellison were true. She may be old, but she still loved a good old gossip. She could tell that's he was near her end, but she had no idea if it was days or just mere minutes.
The doors swung open and a woman entered. She recognised her as one of the woman who dealt with the medication, or was she the woman who worked in the shop? As she got older, her memory just kept getting worse and worse.
"Miss Noble." Definitely a doctor.
"You have a visitor."
She never got visitors. Not since her mother died. Her friends never came. She just sat around, occasionally talking. Well actually she talked a lot, but not as much as she used to.
A man entered the room. He seemed familiar yet she was sure that they had never met.
"Hello, I am John Smith." He said.
"Donna Noble." She replied.
It took so much effort just to speak. The man walked right over to the side of her bed. She sighed. She had a deep feeling that her end was near, like the fire of life was being extinguished, and Donna Noble was a very fiery person.
"How are you Donna?" He asked.
"I'm dying in hospital, how do you think I am?"
"Still the same old Donna eh."
"What do you mean, we have only just met."
"Ah yes, sorry."
He looked at her. His eyes finding hers, him looking very sad. She took a deep breath, knowing that it would be one of her last. She looked at him properly, as if seeing him for the first time.
"Thank-you."
"What?" He asked, confused.
She let out her final breath.
"Thank-you Doctor."
And all was still.
In her final moments, Donna rembered.
