DISCLAIMER: I'm working on it, but for now...I don't own anything but the weird, twisted "plot" of the Fan (for goodness sakes, people!) fiction.
Voldemort knew.
It never mattered what Harry tried to do, what he did to protect her, he always knew.
However evil, however wrong he was about many things, he was perceptive, and an accomplished Legillimens. That and the added advantage of having the special connection between himself and Harry Potter, created when he had attempted taking the innocent life of an infant sixteen years ago. He knew who Harry was constantly thinking about, worrying about.
He knew before Harry himself knew.
But he didn't kill her - not yet.
It was too much fun to torment Potter, to make him wonder. If he got the chance, he decided, he would torture her before Potter's eyes as Potter stood helpless, kill her slowly as he was forced to watch. The opportunity to hurt Potter in that way...it was too much to let go of. Yes, that was what he would do.
He knew, but he didn't understand.
There was something so completely unselfish about Harry's thoughts about the girl, so entirely pure and honest, that Voldemort was convinced that Harry would do anything for her - that he was doing everything for her.
And that, he didn't not understand. Because love - unselfish love - was something that he had never had. Everything that he supposedly "loved", all his so-called "friends" were used to his own advantage. He worked alone. He hated dependence. And so none of this made sense. None of it. All the way back to Potter's mother dying for him...then Sirius Black...
So many of his mistakes were based on his misunderstanding of love, and he hated that. It gave him a vulnerability. He wanted to understand. Needed to understand, to know why...To conquer his only weakness. But he convinced himself that it was simply another perfect opportunity to tear Harry Potter's world apart, to show him that love was worthless, that it only hurts the people foolish enough to submit to it.
But there was something in some small part of the Dark Lord's remaining, mangled piece of his soul that wanted to know how, and why.
How Harry Potter could possibly still love.
Why Harry Potter chose - first unconsciously - to love Ginny Weasley.
A/N: Please review! I know it's short, I know it's strange...I just had to write it down when it came to me, and it seemed like something mildly worthy of uploading...so REVIEW! :)
