A/N Just a short one shot covering some things that I always felt possibly were left unsaid between Mike and Steve while they were standing together at the end of the episode "The Thrill Killers" Thanks to Shergar for checking this story over for me.

Never Leave Things Undone!

They stood there not a foot apart. He had just been brought home from the hospital by Mike, Jeannie and Dan. With Dan back in the car and Jeannie having gone into Steve's apartment, they were left alone now. Each of them knew there were so many things that had been left unsaid over their years together. While they both knew without words how the other felt, this experience of almost not having the other made them want to release those unsaid words.

Steve looked embarrassed and shy; he cleared his throat and decided maybe he was the one that should speak first. Clearing his throat nervously, he finally got his courage up as he and Mike stood there, hands still grasped.

"Mike, there are so many things I have wanted to say to you that I never have. I wanted you to know you are the dad I never really had and my best friend other than Jeannie and now Dan. I honestly do not know what I would have done without you and Jeannie so many times during the years. You both were there above and beyond the call of duty. I know you don't really like this professor idea, but you have kept supporting me and I appreciate that. You mean so much to me; more than all the words could say, but I do love you and I hope we never lose touch with each other." Steve managed to get the words out with difficulty.

"Of course we won't, buddy boy, you know me and Jeannie are like bad pennies; you never could get rid of us. I want you to know, too that you are a fine son, the absolute best any man could ever ask for and I am very proud of you. I really do know you are going to do great in this new job. You have been the best friend anyone could find since Helen. I have trained quite a few young men over the years but none have even come close to being the excellent cop you are, Steve. Try to never lose those abilities; you never know when they might come in handy. Stay safe alright, son and be happy. I am going to miss you so very much!" Mike's voice had started to break. "And by the way, I love you too, Steve."

Steve and Mike hugged each other tight both very emotional. Jeannie had come out to see what was keeping Steve and caught some of what was said and stepped back, feeling emotional herself. She watched the two hugging each other and knew Mike would never have any partner or friend like Steve Keller. They finally managed to get control of their emotions and released each other and managed a smile before Steve turned away.

"I am going to miss you too more than I can say, Mike. I will be in touch, I promise," Steve assured Mike as he turned and headed toward his apartment, then an afterthought made him stop and look back toward Mike. "Uh, Mike you realize now I am no longer a cop."

"Yes, I do why?"

"Well, now all bets are off concerning Jeannie and I mean that with the greatest respect, wise father," Steve quipped with a beaming smile.

Mike shook his head, smiling, knowing he had walked right into that one as Steve hurried into his apartment before Mike could come after him. As he turned to go the car, he saw Dan Robbins on the passenger side and thought now I have another young man that is going to have to learn the proper way to do things especially when it comes to who does the driving and the reports!

As they drove off finally with Dan Robbins behind the wheel, Mike recalled what Steve had said about Jeannie and wondered was the boy really serious or just wanting to try to have the last word?
