Prologue: New Recruits

"I don't know about this, folk," Noah Thompson looked up at the mess of rails, platforms, loops floating stationary amongst the several towers that made up the Modian Association Main Headquarters. There were even some figures the size of salt grains using the modes of transportation; weaving through corkscrews, grinding into the sky, and diving from the clouds.

"Wow…This place is awesome!" Marcus Thompson – after lifting his beanie from over his eyes - looked through a pair of binoculars, spotting a few figures converging in the sky and holding hands as they float toward the ground, "Are they even scared of hurting themselves?"

Spencer Daniel Ricardo – Also known as Big D – snorted at his Noah, "Listen, man; I didn't go through all of that training in New Westopolis just to turn back with my tail between my legs."

"But gorillas don't have tails, D." Noah noticed the three Xians[L1] racing toward them from high above, stepping back a few feet.

"You know my I meant, ass wipe. The Mobians and humans give this gang a bad name. The Modian Associtation helped take down Armageddon for God's sake and more so. I don't know about you guys, but I-" A pair of feet landed right on the gorrila's back, sending him spiraling forward right into Marcus, making the panda yelp in surprise. Two other Modains touched down right next to their commerade.

"Aw shoot!" The one who landed on Spencer spoke up first, "Sorry about that. Didn't see you there until the last minute." This anthropomorphic was a scorpion; sporting a black hoodie, torn jeans, rollerblades, and a pair of sunglasses that had pixilated patterns on them like a honeycomb.

"Are you okay?" A sewerat[L2] covered her mouth with her paws, her blade-like nails gleaming in the sunlight, "I'm sure Chaozin didn't mean to hit you."

"Ain't our fault, Spear," a bulky turtle crossed his arms, his metallic teeth striking worry into the hearts of the three mammals – He couldn't be pure Xian, "Shouldn't be standing around during training hours anyway."

"Dangit Gamma, you're so mean!" Spear stuck her tongue out at the cyborg, which was jet black.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Noah, his canine chest fur ruffling a bit in the coming winds, "Who are you freaks? Where'd you come from anyway?"

The trio in front of him looked at him as if he was talking a different language, then looked upward at the floating areas in the sky, "Up there," they said in unison.

"Not that I don't like this," Marcus sat with a semi-consious Spencer sprawled across his legs, "But shouldn't we be heading into the headquarters?"

The gorilla jumped up and hid his blushing cheeks from the younger boy, "Dammit, Marc! Don't do that! It's not my fault I was just judo-kicked into your lap!"

The panda snickered, "I'm just kiddin', D! Sort of…" He got to his feet and joined his brother and best friend in front of the other team.

Chaozin scratched underneath his chin, "Into the headquarters, huh? I guess Spear was right – You three are the new recruits. " He held his claw out to Noah, who almost jumped out of his wolf pelt, "I'm Chaozin the Scorpion. How y'all doin'?"

"Uh, I'm Noah…" He shook the Modian's hand, then looked back toward Spencer – realizing something very off-topic, "And Big D? What the Sam Hill is a judo-kick, folk?"

"What?" Spencer squinted his eyes at his friend, "That was like nine lines ago. I barely remember why I said that."

Spear broke up the confusion, "Hey there, cuties! I'm Spear the sewerat! Secondary of Fire Squad!" She winked at Marcus, who blushed in surprise.

"Heh," The panda rubbed the back of his neck, "I guess that's karma for me."

"Damn right it is," Big D retorted, a smirk on his face, "I'm Spencer Daniel Ricardo, by the way." He earned a gleeful nod from the rodent.

"Ugh, I hate pointless introductions!" Gamma face-palmed, his tongue hanging halfway out of his mouth, "Just in case anybody gives a crap, I'm Dacur Liasen – Gramius Matthew's third to last Elite CyberModian[L3] . And the Tertiary of the team."

"So that's why you're called Gamma," Marc knocked a couple of fingers against DL Gamma's breastplate which concealed his entire torso, excluding his shell, "I'm Marcus Thompson, Noah's little brother." He pointed toward Noah, who was still smirking at Chaozin.

"Aw yeah, I can see the resemblance," the scopion leader smiled, "I'm guessing you guys adopted each other?"

Noah winked at Marcus, "Wouldn't want anybody different, folk. Panda, wolf, or whatever. Hope that don't make things difficult around here, huh?"

"Not at all," Chaozin put up his hands in surrender, "We do that all the time here. More often than not, your squad will depend on who you seem the most comfortable around."

"Unless variables like energy attribute and past circumstances clash within a suggested matchup," Spear yawned, "I'm glad I don't have to figure all of that out."

Spencer blinked, "Come again? You mean the three of you ain't the head honchos of this place?"

Gamma cackled, "Ain't no way I'm doin' all the work the General Squads gotta deal with," The turtle waved a claw at the three in front of him, "Count me out. I happen to like bein' apart of Fire Squad."

"Speaking o' which, y'all," Chaozin clicked the sides of his skate-bearing feet together, creating bubbles of foamy, silver gas to take root below him, "We should be headin' back. Need to get ready for our test."

"Oh, really?" Spear started rising in the air, surrounded by the same gas, "If you say so. I was having so much fun talking to these newbies."

"Hmph! Don't be so sure, Spear," DL started to float as well, "Who knows how far they'll get? They might not even make it past Earth's introductory test."

Marcus jumped in surprise, "What? Earth? How many different squads are there?"

Chaozin just smiled, "Peace…" With that, the three freaks of nature rose in the air and spiraled behind a nearby tower. They turned to flecks of dust, then vanished as if they'd never been there.

"What the hell just happened?" Spencer asked, still searching for the Fire members.

"I don't know, Spencer," Noah backed away from the gorilla, looking to the sky behind his friend, "But I'd duck if I were you."

"WHOA!" The gorilla jumped to the dirt and held his paws over his head, expecting to hear a large impact nearby. For a second, he heard absolutely nothing except for his own anticipating heartbeat. However, within another moment or so, laughter vigorously bombarded his eardrums.

"What the heck are you doing, Spence?" Marc laughed, falling on the ground allowing his beanie to cover his eyes, "Get off the ground!"

Noah held his stomach as if he would pass out, "What are you so afraid of, folk! There's nothing in the damn sky!"

Spencer turned red, angry and embarrassed, and jumped out of the fettle position, "Why do you have to toy with me like that! I'm already freaked out about this place as it is!"

Noah and Marcus continued to snicker until they sensed someone approach. They turned to see three more Modians approach them from the wide entrance of the main MA Tower: A medium-statured feline dressed in Jucadian[L4] -style clothing, a short puppy in streetball apparel, and a tall elephant with his trunk wrapped around his neck like a scarf.

The cat cleared her throat, an odd accent lacing her words, "Are ye the new recruits?"

Marcus and Spencer looked at her in shock, dead silent as if cotton balls had been stuffed in their throats. Noah rubbed a hand through his navy hair, "Yeah, we're the newbies. Who are you?"

The pup stuffed his hands in his pockets, "We're Karma Squad."

"Yeah, mofo," The elephant scratched at one of his ivory tusks with one of his rough nails, "And we're your escorts. So follow us if y'all ready to kick this thang into overdrive."

Karma Squad turned on their heels without another word, the cat – obviously the leader – converging to the front and center of their group. Marcus and Spencer finally came out of their stupors and looked at Noah, who had suddenly became the decision-maker of the trio.

Very well. Noah nodded to them and started on the heels of Karma Squad, his two friends eventually matching his pace.

No backing out now…
