I'm Sorry

It was a warm evening with the sound of chirping cicadas filling the air backed up by the lovely sound of birdsong. Amber and Alfie were out of the house taking a walk through the campus as Alfie tried his best to impress Amber. Nina and Mara were studying for an upcoming test. And Jerome was nowhere to be found. It was on this peaceful night that Joy and Fabian were in the living room watching a movie. Everyone else had backed out, or so Fabian thought, but Joy had simply "forgotten" to invite everyone to this little movie rendezvous in the living room. As the movie went on, she'd snuggled up closer and closer to Fabian.

"Fabs, there's something I've wanted to say for a long time," Joy said finally with a sigh as she sat up a little and looked Fabian in the eyes. He looked away, slightly nervous.

"Joy…"Fabian tried to interrupt, but Joy pressed on.

"I really like you," Joy said, forcing the words to tumble from her lips as her voice took on a nervous shake.

"Joy…" Fabian started again, trying to speak but Joy continued to speak.

"Do you…like me to?" Joy asked, her eyes wide with excitement as she stared up at Fabian, looking scared. She wasn't ready to be rejected, especially by someone who had been a very close friend of hers and who she had liked as more than a friend for years. She missed them being Jabian. She loathed Fabina.

"Joy, I'm sorry, but…" Fabian started.

"It's fine, Fabs, really," Joy interrupted as she stood up, wiping away the tears from her misting eyes before she started out of the room. The more she walked, the faster she went until she was in a full on sprint towards the door.

"Joy! I'm sorry!" Fabian called after her as he jumped to his feet, but she was gone. His voice dropped to sad, quiet tone. "But I like Nina."

Joy continued to run, throwing up the door and allowing it to bang into the wall and ignored the resounding bang that echoed through the house. The ground outside was muddy from that morning's rain and her bare feet sank into the mud with each step but she didn't let that slow her down. Tears blurred her vision as she ran blindly, having no idea where she was going or what she was doing. Thoughts raced through her mind at a million miles an hour, making it impossible for her to even think straight. The world spun and her mind whirled. She was beyond confused.

Anger boiled inside her. Anger towards Nina for stealing her Fabian. Towards Fabian for rejecting her and picking that stupid American girl over her. It made her want to be sick to her stomach when she so much thought about how Nina and Fabian were always together. Ugh! She hated them both with a passion now. They had hurt her more than anyone else had every hurt her before in her life.

Rage was born from the anger and Joy blindly swung out at the air in front of her, wanting to injure Nina or Fabian for doing this to her. For ruining. For killing her spirit. She staggered out onto the road, her bare feet trekking mud onto the slick road. A horn blared as Joy stared up towards the headlights that bore down on her. She stared back at the driver defiantly, but even though the driver slammed the breaks it was too late. The broken body rolled up the hood of the car before dropping, shattered, to the pavement.

Slowly, the driver got out of the car and took a quick peek at the car to check if the victim was alive even though the hit had been bad. Lying on the concrete was Joy Mercer's bloody and bruised figures. Limbs stuck out the wrong way. Blood oozed from various cuts. Worst of all, her neck was twisted at a very odd, very broken angle. She was dead.
