Another Letter
A/N: I'm so sorry this has taken so long! Gift!fic for Lieutenant96 on dA. She's awesome, so if you have free time (or even if you don't), you should go do her a favor and see the cool things she's done. She requested Royai fluff, so she shall get the fluff! *epic pose* You know, assuming I can write fluff… I'm probably better at angst… Look what that says about me! XD So, after long last, this goes out to the awesome Lieutenant96.
Disclaimer: Seeing as I am not (yet) a magical awesome cow (well, THAT sounds like an oxymoron), I do not own FMA.
Another Letter
Riza smiled to herself as she picked up the blank envelope laying amidst her other mail. There was no return address, no stamp, nothing except her name, printed neatly in the center. Then again, there was no need for anything else – she knew who the letter was from. He had always had a rather romantic idea of writing her long, flowery letters, mostly without any meaning at all.
She used her fingernail to gently pry open the envelope, taking care not to damage the seal. She would re-seal the envelope later and place it in a shoebox with all the others she had collected over the years, all still in mint condition. Whenever her demons from Ishbal were particularly bothersome, she would open the crammed box, rereading the many letters until she inevitably fell asleep in the middle of one. Doing so had become a comfortable paradigm for her, and she never had nightmares afterwards.
She removed the parchment from the confines of the envelope it was trapped in, carefully opening up the letter. When she had unfolded the paper, she began to read:
Riza,
…Well, shit. It seems that once again, you have left me speechless. Sorry for staring in the office today. But, in my defense, you are stunning, and I love you a lot. So please, forgive me. I won't do it again, I promise! Or at least, I'll try not to. I probably shouldn't make any promises about that. I'll just end up breaking them anyway…
So, when can we go out again? It's been too long since we went on a date. A real one, I mean. Not one where you pretend to be some floozy and talk all fake. A date where we go out and I don't have to call you Elizabeth, even if we are wearing disguises. I want to go out with Riza. Not some informant and not 'Elizabeth'. Riza's a better name, anyhow. So, any thoughts?
I'll miss you tomorrow. You don't often get a day off, and you certainly deserve it for taking care of the office like you do, but it's still not the same when you aren't there. Quite frankly, when you aren't there, I tend to glare at everyone in the office for no reason. And I think I scare the men a little. Or more than a little… Oh well. Don't pick up any weirdos, okay? I don't want to have to burn anybody tomorrow. Or ever.
I was thinking… (Which, contrary to the witticism you enjoy quipping when I tell you this, is NOT a dangerous activity) We should move closer to each other. It would give me an excuse to walk you home. And then, you can't tell me that my house is in the opposite direction and it would be pointless of me to do so when I ask. You would be forced to accept!
You know that I love you, right? And that that's why I harass you? Well, I love you.
Roy
Riza smiled. She would sleep soundly tonight.
A/N: Well, that was sort of fluff, right? Brownie points to whoever catches the three references I made. I'll even give you a hint – one's a song reference, one's a manga reference, and one's a Ranger's Apprentice reference. Much love to IvyShort for her beta and to anyone so kind as to review.
Any last words, Ivy?
…Or not.
