Last Dance

Disclaimer: I own nothing. Jareth/Sarah belong to Jim Henson (?), The song belings to The Cure or maybe it's just Robert Smith. I think he wrote it...anyway, I don't own it. Enjoy.

I'm so glad you came

I'm so glad you remembered

To see how we're ending

Our last dance together

Expectant too punctual

But prettier than ever

I really believe that this time

It's Forever

Jareth watched her approach in fascination. It had been so many years, and he hadn't really believed she would come. But she had. Somehow she had remembered and when he called, she came.

He smiled at the sight of her. She was even more beautiful than the last time he had seen her. Jareth's thoughts drifted to their dance in the bubble. Maybe now that feeling could last. Just maybe.

But older than me now

More constant

More real

And the fur and the mouth and the innocence

Turned to hair and contentment

That hangs in a basement

A woman now standing where once there was only a girl

They had spent the remainder of the night together. Their talk had stayed on pleasantly safe subjects. Neither brought up what both was thinking. She was different. With the aging of her beauty had come the end of her innocence. She seemed far away, her words distant. It pained Jareth to admit it, but she was his no longer. The girl he had claimed was now a woman, and he could no nothing to change it.

I'm so glad you came

I'm so glad you remembered

The walking through walls

In the heart of December

The blindness of happiness

Of falling down laughing

And I really believed that

This time was forever

She returned to him the next morning. Jareth wanted to believe that it was out of love for him, but was unable to convince himself. Whatever feeling she once had for him had melted into nothing but a simple concern for his well-being. But that didn't erase the time they had had together. The memories they shared. The whole of his kingdom had been open to them, and they had refused to rest until every last spot had a story. The only real happiness Jareth had known was in that time. And his only mistake was believing that it could be forever.

But Christmas falls late now

Flatter and colder

And never as bright as when

We used to fall

All this in an instant

Before I can kiss you

A woman now standing where once there was only a girl

After she left the cold begun. Slow at first, but finally creeping into every part him. Jareth's days had become long and torturous. What had once brought him such pleasure now seemed dismal. Nothing could match the times he had spent with her. Their childish laughter that would turn to fevered kissing without the slightest warning...

Jareth stared into her eyes and shook his head. She was too different now, and too much had happened since then. The mere thought of their reconcilation was impossible.

But Christmas falls late now

Flatter and colder

And never as bright

As when we used to fall

And even if we drink I don't think we

Would kiss in the way that we did

When the woman was only a girl

I love this song and I thought it might fit Jareth and Sarah's relationship. Please let me know what you think.
