I'm one tear in the dropping rain,
One voice in a sea of pain.
He knelt down on the soaked ground, placing his hands down to steady his body. The mud squished in between his fingers. This would have made him cringe at any other moment, but right then, he didn't care in the least.
With rain water and mire coated most of his clothes, any normal person would have though he was a homeless person kneeling down in front of a grave. There was something about him, though, something that made people think he was someone of powercontrolinfluence. Maybe it was how, even on his hands and knees, he was purely dignified in what he did. The air around him was electrified with authority that made the passers-by surprised that the rain itself didn't avoid him. His designer clothes, though almost completely covered in sludge, were still unmistakeable.
There was something else about him, too, though, something that was almost pitiful. It was the way his shoulders shook in unadulterated griefsorrowmisery, the way his salt water tears mixed with the rain running down his cheeks, the way his shoulders slumped, as if he were defeatedbeatenconquered.
Some people stopped to stare at him, pitying him in every respect, yet too scared to go to him and lend a comforting word. He didn't need their, pity, though. He didn't want it. All he wanted was his sister back, and he would do anything to get it. He would do anything to hear her laugh or see her smile or hold her in his arms one last time. But he couldn't do it. He couldn't bring her back. All he was was one, insignificantunimportanttrivialperson with absolutely no power over death or nature.
Every single person was governed by Time and Nature, those two entities working together to bring life and then demand the ultimate price in return – deathdemisequietus. She has run her course, he mused. And there was nothing I could have done to stop it.
Because, really, all he was was one grain of sand in an entire desert, one tiny fish in an entire ocean, helplessincapableimpotentto preserve the only thing that had ever truly mattered to him. He could do nothing. He was truly, utterly powerless.

Okay, I've never done a fic like this before, so don't be harsh if I kind of overused the whole bold/italics/underlined thing. I'm basically just testing out different ways to write. And this is kind of too short to be considered a one-shot, but it's too long to be a drabble. So! It is now a drabble-shot. :D I hope you enjoyed, and I would enjoy it if you left a little review for me. :) Please? :3
