Authors Note: This is my first story and I'm a very amateur writer so hopefully this doesn't turn out too bad :D

It started off as an ordinary day; Eren getting into fights and Mikasa getting him out of them; today Eren was attacking a group of kids that stole one of Armin's books (really he just wanted to get into a fight) and Mikasa had bailed him out, beating up the three bigger children. As they ran off Eren and Mikasa turned to leave one of the big kids suddenly picked up a chair that was inside the alleyway...

"Eren, you really should stop picking fights, you're only going to end up getting yourself hurt," said Mikasa

"Stop worrying about me Mikasa! I was doing fine today until you came along!" yelled Eren

"Didn't seem that way to me." Mikasa replied, "One of these days you're going to get seriously injured."

"You only just came here a month ago; I was always fine without you!"

"That's not what your moth-" Mikasa's indigent retort was cut off as something hard slammed into the back of her head; knocking her down. Mikasa's world faded to black.

"What the fuck!" yelled Eren, "Who the fuck threw that th-" Eren's voice trailed off as he saw the bigger kid standing a few yards away. "I'll kill you, you bastard!" Eren began to see red as he charged at the bully; he felt as if he'd tapped into an unknown vein of strength as he punched the kid in the jaw; his hearing was fuzzy and he barely even heard the resounding crack as he broke it. The bigger child fell over onto the ground and clutched his jaw in pain. Eren felt a bolt of pure rage slice through his body as he kicked the larger kid in the nose; blood gushed out of the bigger kid's nose. Normally Eren would have gloated over his victory but Mikasa needed his help. "Mikasa can you hear me?" Eren asked "Mikasa!" Eren felt a sense of dread when she didn't respond. Fearing that she was dead; Eren pulled her close and put his ear to her chest, almost crying with joy when he heard her heartbeat, loud and clear. 'Okay, I need to get Mikasa home and have dad look at her, I hope she's alright.' Eren thought, worriedly. Eren picked up Mikasa in his arms and began the long walk home.

"Eren, did you get the firewo- Oh my walls! What happened Eren!?" Carla yelled, seeing Mikasa in Eren's arms.

"Someone threw a chair at her, Get dad now!" Eren yelled, frantic.

Carla felt cold inside as she remembered Grisha wasn't home and that he wouldn't be till nighttime.

"Eren can you carry her upstairs? She needs to rest," Eren didn't even reply as he started rushing upstairs to bring Mikasa to the bed they shared. Once up there, Eren placed her down and then crawled in himself. He pulled her chest close and kept his head on her heart; finding comfort in the fact that she was still there.

Carla went upstairs feeling a constant sense of dread, she had no idea what to do for Mikasa other than rest, she wasn't even sure if she wanted to believe Eren's story of someone throwing a chair at her; at first, part of her was thinking Eren may have done this himself but she dismissed the thought almost immediately. Carla knew Eren, no matter how hot-headed he was towards Mikasa he cared for her deeply and would never do something like this.

Carla felt like Mikasa was her own daughter, and worried for her as such. She opened the door and found Eren fast asleep, his head on Mikasa's heart. Carla often checked up on Eren and Mikasa during the night; most of the time Eren and Mikasa were cuddling, proving how close they were to each other, however, Carla had never seen them so close before and it made her see Eren in a whole new light. 'Grisha won't be home till sundown, at the earliest, and more likely he wouldn't get home till midnight' Carla thought as she quietly went downstairs; not wanting to disturb Eren's peaceful rest.

It was late at night when Grisha finally returned home; finding Carla waiting for him. "Carla did something happen?" He asked, knowing the cues that his wife was worried about something.

"Grisha, it's Mikasa, according to Eren someone threw a chair at her; she's unconscious!"

"I have to go up and check on her, she likely has a concussion; let's just hope it's minor." Grisha said, as

he walked upstairs. The second Grisha got into Eren and Mikasa's room he saw her, she looked like she was just blissfully sleeping, that was good. Grisha shook Eren to wake him up.

"Dad, is she okay?" Eren asked

"I think so Eren, just get up for a second and let me check on her," Grisha said. Eren got up and Grisha began his checkup. Grisha checked her eyes to make sure she was indeed unconscious, she was.

"Eren, where on her head did the chair hit?" Grisha asked

"The back of the head," Eren replied. "Is she okay dad!?" Eren asked. Grisha didn't reply as he checked the place where the chair had hit. A small lump was beginning to form, not enough to be a major concussion but likely a minor one.

"I think she will be okay, but she needs to rest for a few days; she has a concussion, she will be confused and unfocused, she also will probably have a really bad headache" Grisha stated calmly.

"Thank goodness!" Eren said, he felt as if his nerves were frayed. Eren crawled back into the bed and cuddled close to Mikasa once again, drifting off almost immediately. Grisha wasn't usually the type of guy to think about things like that, but even he had to realize how adorable Eren and Mikasa's friendship was.
