I Will Remember You

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by

They stand together in the woods. The tall, oak trees stand looming over them. The sunlight tries to peek through the leaves. Their long, black gowns rustle softly in the wind. It's their last hour together.

Shelby Merrick moves the tassel attached to her graduation cap out of her face. She can't believe this is her last day at Horizon. Her last day with all her friends. Her last day with Scott.

Scott will be going home with his father. Then off to college in August. He was accepted to UCLA with a tentative spot on the football team. This is a big achievement for him and he can't give up this opportunity. Even if it means leaving Shelby behind.

Community College is not a first choice for Shelby, but probably the best one for her now. She isn't known for getting the best of grades and she isn't known for having the most money. So she will be living at home and attending the local college. Away form Scott.

Weep not for the memories
Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip from us when things got bad

A lump rises in her throat, but she tries not to let her emotion show. She wants her last moment with Scott to be a happy one. She looks at him intently and tries to memorize ever detail of his face. His deep, blue eyes that she had, many times, found herself lost in. His lips, that so tenderly kissed her own.

How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one
I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so tired that I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much to deep
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

A tear escapes Shelby's eye and slowly trickles down the side of her face. Scott reaches up and gently wipes it away with his thumb. Then he pulls her close to embrace her in a hug.

Her heart aches inside of her. When things get rough, who will be there to hold her close? Who will be there to wipe away her tears? She wants to beg Scott to forger about UCLA and be with her instead, but she knows she can't do that.

She had once heard a quote. "If you love something set if free. If it loves you, it will come back." Or something like that. She'll have to let Scott go. And if he really loves her, someday he'll come back.

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh, you gave me the light

"I love you, Scott."

"I love you, too."

"Don't ever forget me. Don't ever forget what we have."

Scott doesn't say anything, but kisses Shelby instead. She knows he'll never forget.

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories
