A/N: Green Eyes is one of my favorite songs of all time; it's literally Percabeth set to music! I would've loved to put the lyrics in this Song!fic, but according to catspats31, I cannot legally do that. Soooo, I would appreciate it if you actually listened to the song (you can find it on YouTube) while reading this. I think it would make the overall experience better.

Read and enjoy!

Annabeth couldn't sleep. This wasn't anything new, of course. Annabeth doubted she had gotten a decent night's sleep ever since he had gone missing.

Percy Jackson.

Gods, it hurt to even think about him. It was an actual, physical pain. It started in her heart; a slight, tugging sensation. Then it progressed to her lungs, her stomach, and finally settled in between her legs.

Annabeth sat up in bed, clutching the covers to her chest and squeezing her eyes shut against the memories that were desperately trying to fight their way out of the shadowy corner she had locked them up in. Fight it, Annabeth. Don't think about him. Don't think. Don't. Think. She couldn't think about him. Not now, not here. But she needed to think about him.

And there was only one place she could do that.

Fingers shaking, Annabeth pulled the covers off of her legs and knelt beside her bedside table. She carefully extracted her headphones and slipped them into her ears, then plugged them into her MP3 player and pressed 'Play'. Then she walked out the door.

The sand felt soft between her toes as she walked across the beach and toward the water. Don't cry yet, she thought desperately. But it was too late; the tears were already flowing.

When she closed her eyes, she could picture his. Gods, she wanted his eyes to be the first thing she saw everyday when she woke up. And with the sun shining on his hair, illuminating his godlike features... He would open his eyes and see her watching him, then laugh and make a joke out of it. Oh, what she would give to wake up next to that every morning for the rest of her life.

It was hard. So damn hard. The ache hadn't gone away in almost eight months. She'd started referring to it as pónos, the Greek word for 'pain'.

She was up to her waist now. A few waves splashed against her breasts, causing her skin to erupt into goosebumps. But Annabeth didn't care about the cold. She didn't really care about anything anymore.

Where was he? It was slowly killing her, not knowing where he was. Olympus? Hell? Under the ocean? Where was that goddamn boy?

She had so many memories of teasing him. It didn't matter back then. She could tease him to her heart's content, because she knew that he would always be there when she woke up, and she could tease him all over again. Guess she took that for granted.

She could always count on Percy to make her laugh. But she hadn't laughed in eight months.

Annabeth's cheeks were wet from sea spray and tears.

"I love you," Annabeth whispered. She stared out at the deep waters in front of her for a second longer before turning around and walking back to shore. Tonight, she would enjoy the blissful emptiness inside of her. It was a welcome oasis from the pain of reality.

And maybe - just maybe - come morning light, everything would be alright.

A/N: Okay, so I just realized something: Without the lyrics, this is kind of random and confusing. So sorry about that.

Did you love it? Did you hate it? I won't know unless you review!
