6/25/17:
Editing in this chapter. I seriously cringed at how I use to write as a young teenager. No plot editing, just cleaning up the style and grammar. I hope to finish this story and in light of that, I'm polishing it to be more of what I envisioned it to be all those years ago and to match my writing style. Lol, I had none back then.
Chapter 1: Takahashi Academy
Kagome groaned as the sound of her alarm clock sounded. She turned in her bed, and tried futilely to hit the snooze button. She kept swinging her arm, hoping that she would hit the damn thing. When she couldn't, she realized she would just have to face the fact that she was going to the Academy. She groaned even louder this time, disturbing her pet cat, Kali. It meowed, annoyed at being awakened before her breakfast.
She'd been accepted to Takahashi Academy just a few weeks ago. She laid there in her bed, contemplating whether she should just bit the bullet and go or convince her mother that she was sick. Honestly, the only reason that she'd been accepted in the first place was because she recently discovered that she was a miko-one with an overwhelming amount of spiritual power. The school itself had been made for demons, hanyous, demon slayers and even monks. These people came all over from Japan to study in an environment they considered to be free.
But Kagome was dreading it. She didn't understand why she had to go. She had learned to control her powers very well in a very short amount of time, so why did her mother want her to go? She sighed and pulled over the bright purple quilt that she most loved. She heard footsteps near her door and she immediately tried to pretend to be asleep.
"Kagome, honey, it's time to get up. You wouldn't want to be late to your new school on your first day, now would you?" Her mother said, opening the curtains, letting the the rays of the first light in. She left the room as Kagome cringed at the thought. There was no way out of this now. She reluctantly threw off her covers and started to undress and contemplated what outfit she'd wear. She wrenched open her closet door, looking for something decent that wouldn't make her look like an idiot. She smiled widely as she found the perfect outfit. A soft, casual v-neck with her favorite pair of blue jeans would do the trick.
She brushed through her long, wavy, raven black, careful to not pull hair as she did so. She glanced at herself in the mirror, blue gray eyes meeting her own. She frowned slightly at what she should accessorize with but quickly came up with a solution. She pulled out her favorite crystal heart-necklace from her jewelry box. It was a clear crystal with many facets. She loved this one more particularly because her father had given it to her before he died. She also loved the way the light reflected on it.
Her eyes started welling, but she blinked back the tears. She didn't want to break down now. She fastened the necklace around her neck and applied lip gloss. She threw herself a smile at the mirror before running down the stairs to eat breakfast. She could smell the bacon and eggs frying and her stomach started to growl fiercely.
"Hey Mom, Souta, and gramps" she said each name as she gave them a good-morning kiss on the cheek.
"I told you not to do that anymore! I'm not a child. " Souta frowned, as her sister laughed. He didn't want admit it but he was still a kid. 10 years old wasn't grown up or even a teenager. She quickly sat down at the small table in her dining room.
"Mom, could you please hurry up a little? I'm really hungry and I don't want to be late for school." Kagome tried to ask politely.
The last comment was meant to make it look like she wanted to go. Her mother stifled a chuckle. Even though Kagome tried hard to keep her feelings a secret, there wasn't anything that she didn't know about her little girl. She sighed. Her little girl wasn't so little anymore, she thought. She was 17 and almost an adult. She plastered on a fake smile when she served them the food. Kagome ate her food hungrily and when finished she dashed out of the room to her car so she could get to her school.
As she pulled into the parking lot of the school she couldn't help but feel intimidated. She saw demons, hanyous, and demon slayers every which way. She took a deep breath and got out her car, nervously walking up to the main office. The woman behind the counter was human, a small comfort which put Kagome more at ease.
The woman asked her for her name and she gave it gladly. She got her schedule and a map of the school to help her find her way. She was able to find her first class easily because it was in the same building. She sighed in relief as she spotted the classroom and she went inside. Class hadn't started yet, as evidenced from the fact that there was only one person other than the teacher seated at a desk. From the look of him, he was a hanyou. He had long silver hair and she was fairly sure he had beautiful gold eyes, but she glanced away as she walked up to the teacher.
"Umm, excuse me sir, but I'm new in your class. I just transferred from another school." The teacher nodded and he started asking her questions.
Meanwhile, the silver-haired hanyou stared curiously at the new girl. She had long, wavy, raven colored hair that almost came to her waist. When he looked closer he could tell she had blue gray eyes. He stared, without really trying to hide the fact, even as she made her way to her seat and sat down. Kagome, on the other hand, was blushing madly. She had never seen him before but for some reason he made her heart flutter. She had noticed him staring at her from out of the corner of her eye but she thought it was just because she was new. Yet, his gaze never wavered, even after she sat down. She wondered if that meant anything. She wondered if she wanted to mean anything. Her trail of thought was broken as the silver-haired hanyou walked over to her seat.
"Hi," was all he said but it was enough for her heart to go even faster than before. Even with the raucous sound of her heart, she was able to reply.
"Hi" she returned, shly, glancing up at him through her lashes. That simple little gesture made his heart beat faster. He had to reply, maybe say something witty, something that would impress her.
"I'm Inuyasha. Inuysasha Takahashi " he said, wincing at how fast he said the words. So much for saying something witty.
He looked at her with those eyes of his and Kagome couldn't help but get lost in those golden-hued eyes. She snapped back to reality when he told her his name. She wondered at the old-fashionedness of his name, but there was something that was niggling at the back of her mind about his last name. She pursed her lips. Had he said Takahashi? She blinked a couple of times and the question was out of her mouth before she could think it through properly.
"Takahashi? Isn't that the school's name?" She questioned, one eyebrow lifted in inquiry.
Inuyasha had the modesty to look a little abashed. "Yeah," He shrugged. "My mom founded this whole school. You can almost say she created this world." At this he smiled, and Kagome couldn't help but just sit there ans smile back.
A male voice broke the silence that had come over them, a teasing tone evident in his words. "I see you have met a lady friend, Inuyasha."
Behind Inuyasha stood another boy, a lopsided grin in place. He had brown hair that he wore in a small ponytail. His brown eyes looked Kagome up and down, and Kagome was getting nervous by the looks of it. Inuyasha immediately noticed her discomfort.
Inuyasha nuged his friend. "Don't even think about it." He whispered menacingly.
The brown-eyed boy, knowing not to cross Inuyasha backed off immediately. Instead, he held out his hand in intorudction.
"Hello." He smiled, all politeness. "My name is Miroku. Nice to meet such a lovely acquaintance." Kagome shook his hand.
"My name is Kagome. I'm new here." She smiled back tentatively, the nervous feeling draining from her insides. She didn't notice when a dark brown haired girl with dark pink eye-shadow came behind the boy called Miroku.
"Don't tell me you're at it again, Miroku." She cried, exasperated. "Just leave this poor girl be." She emphasized the word by hitting him across his head.
He cried out in mock pain. "But my dearest Sango, I didn't do a thing! I promise you." He attempted to give her a hurt look as he rubbed his head. Her eyes narrowed and she turned to Kagome, who was flabbergasted at the scene before her.
"Did he do anything to you?" she asked, still skeptical, her pointed look at Miroku and crossed arms emphasizing how done she was with him.
"No he didn't." Kagome shook her head. She didn't understand this whole situation and she turned to the silver-haired hanyou for direction. Inuyasha just rolled his eyes. Sango, finally, satisfied with her answer, turned to Kagome with a smile.
"I'm Sango. A pleasure to meet you." She seemed to be genuine with her words and Kagome returned the same amount of warmth in her own reply.
"Name's Kagome. Nice to finally meet a girl here!" They both laughed light-heartedly at her joke. Just then the bell rang and everyone scrambled to get to their seats.
As he took his seat, Inuyasha couldn't help but glance at her one more time. He shot her a smile and was elated when she gave him a small smile back before turning her attention to the teacher. He had to admit, he was intrigued by Kagome. Her appearance was rather unusual. They didn't have many human transfers, not since-well, he wasn't going to think about the last time a human had been transferred there. He stole another glance at Kagome, her back now to him, and was caught by how similar she looked to a certain someone he was never to think about again. It just had to be a coincidence that she looked like her. She'd died, for heaven's sake.
He sighed at the girl in front of him, determined to think on it no more. Curious, he realized that she was scribbling something on a piece of paper that didn't look like notes. She threw the piece of paper over her shoulder and it landed on his desk.
Inuyasha, you're a hanyou, right? Dog demon, I'm assuming?
He scribbled his response back.
Yeah, how'd you know? Everyone thinks I'm part cat. Can you believe that? A cat!
She giggled silently at his response. She wrote another note and thew it back.
Actually, I can believe that. The only reason I didn't come to that conclusion was because I sensed the dog demon aura around you. The ears were also a very helpful hint.
This only served to confuse Inuyasha. He read the note over again, brow furrowed in though. How was it that some girl he had never met before today know he was part dog demon? And what was this, she sensed his aura? He only knew of one person who could do that but she. . . . she was gone. Kikyo wasn't on this world anymore so how come Kagome, who looked so much like her, have such similar powers too? Then he suddenly understood why the school transferred a human girl. She had to be a miko-a miko who just happened to be very, very similar to a miko he had known before. He wondered, tensely, if she had any connections to Kikyo. He sighed and crumpled the note in his hand, directing his attention ahead on the teacher as best as he could.
He'd just have to wait to find out.
A/N: Well, I hope you liked the edited version. Please review and take into account that I will be editing the following chapters soon. It'll get better soon, I promise. Until then, please bear with me and tell me how you liked this.
