"What in god's green earth possessed you to do this

A/N: I wrote this when I was half-asleep. Still, R&Rs are appreciated. Thank you.

Disclaimer: No CSI. No conversation hearts. No Whatif. That's the title of a Shel Silverstein poem.

"What in god's green earth possessed you to do this?" Wendy demanded angrily.

Infuriatingly, Hodges didn't answer, but instead fished something from his pocket and placed it in Wendy's hand. He then left the room calmly, whistling.

Wendy was perplexed. For two reasons-one being the fact that Hodges had come to examine the miniatures-why was he walking away from them? The second reason being that he had left a conversation heart in her hand. It read Lucky Day. This was aggravatingly Hodges-like.

Wendy fumed. She let her mind wander. Maybe he's not just being annoying, she thought. Maybe... he's trying to tell me- STOP IT! I don't like him. He's a dork who gets on everybody's nerves. THAT'S why he left me the heart. To get on my nerves. He doesn't like me either. He's just trying to annoy me like always.

The little candy heart changed everything in Wendy's mind. That day, she mused. When he insisted on sitting beside me instead of Mandy or Henry. Perhaps it wasn't because of his ongoing video-game feud with Henry, or the fact that he'd misplaced some fingerprint evidence, resulting in Mandy having to work two extra hours... it could be either of those things, Wendy told herself quickly. Don't want to get my ho-

She threw her hands up in defeat.

She didn't even like the jerk and now, because of one little conversation heart, she'd started to imagine that Hodges' annoying traits were more than just annoying traits.

Wendy suddenly thought of the single Valentine she'd received last month-wasn't it signed Spanky? And didn't she hear Grissom throw that same nickname into an insult/threat? Hodges MUST have known she'd put two and two together-after all, she clearly remembered standing in plain sight when Grissom was chiding him about not getting his work done.

And she wasn't even sure if she liked the guy or not.

Sighing, Wendy picked up her phone and dialed a memorized number. While waiting for someone to pick up, she played with the tiny piece of candy. After five rings, a familiar voice rang out.

"Hey, Wendy. What's up?"

"Listen, Mandy. I need your opinion-and your advice-about something."

"Sure thing."
