Prologue: Shokugeki No Natsu
There is nothing that can compare to a summer's morning, rays of bright sunlight extruding from the dark clouds above. If one was to focus, almost entirely, a possibility arises that they may hear the whispering wind, sending messages to and fro. On these fine days, a man or woman, of any age may find themselves walking the streets, stumbling around, clearly in awe of Mother Nature's beauty and grace.
During this time, a young boy, no older than 7 years of age, decided upon following this course. The sunlit streets were the ideal place for finding friends, and so, this salmon-haired youth was kicked out of his home, in order to find a potential companion to accompany him during his daily activities.
The next corner provided an answer to the constant prayers. Upon the curb sat a girl, glistening scarlet hair running beyond her shoulders, brown eyes constantly searching the pages below for new content that would fuel her overactive imagination.
How gorgeous she looked, just sitting there. The young boy was astounded by her beauty. But... The other children on the street... Why weren't they approaching her? It was puzzling, almost impossible to think that such a girl wouldn't have companions. And so, the young boy walked forward, eyes sparkling at the prospect of a new, and possible first friend.
She looked up and found a shining pair of dull golden orbs staring back. Of course, this wasn't new. Many had tried to befriend her but were always shot down. This child wouldn't make any difference. But, for some odd reason, she was compelled to stare deep into his eyes. It was this simple action that warranted a loud and obnoxious response from the boy.
"Hey! Why are you alone out here?"
The young lad had maintained his curiosity, and the fact that this girl had even dared look at him was enough. He was excited, well, beyond excited. For all his life, this young boy was on the move, he never had time to settle down and make actual friends.
The girl responded simply, not even seeming to share a shred of emotion.
"I'm out here because I can be. Does that bother you at all?"
"Na, it doesn't really. You seem like a cool person. Just wanted to know why you didn't have anyone with you."
The response was... Unusual. No one had ever cared for this girl before. Why should this child? What was it about him that made him so irresistible?
This was the first boy to ever ignite a sense of confusion and curiosity within the red heads mind. She wanted to talk to him. At least, for a little while, just to answer some of her now burning questions.
And so, for the first time in years, the girl spoke to a stranger. With a voice barely showing any emotion she asked,
"I am perplexed at your nature. Would you please tell me your name?"
The salmon-haired youngster replied simply,
"The names Natsu... Yukihira Natsu. How about you?"
The girl didn't want to respond, but in spite of her feelings, she replied casually.
"It's... Nakiri Erza. Remember that, Natsu Dragneel."
And so began the blossoming 'friendship' of the two young children.
