1st day, of the Scorpion Moon

Pain. Suffering. Hatred

Was that all he would ever feel? Why doesn't he just end it now? It would be easier. No one would miss him...

Your wrong Nolan.

It was Him. His Savior. His Support. His Friend. His Family.

Reiki.

I knew I could always count on you. Nolan said, I knew you would come, even if my brain didn't believe it.

Reiki was Nolan's brother. Well, sort of. Reiki's father, Robert, had taken him from the orphanage, after Reiki's mother had died. Only to make him suffer.

Two hours earlier, Nolan had been wrestling with Reiki in the barn, When he accidently kicked one of Reiki's teeth out. Robert had been furious. Hatred mashed with drunken comprehension, was etched onto his face. "His father" beat him, blow upon blow smashing his once handsome face, scaring him for life. Blood dripped from places Nolan didn't know he had. Finally after what seemed like years, Robert had thrown Nolan down the cellar, while he went to get even more drunk. Nolan heard the click of the lock, telling him that it would be hours before Robert came back.

Reiki was talking to him with telepathy. Reiki's family magic. Reiki was not only able to talk to people with his mind, but he was also able to plant pictures and memories inside "their" head.

Magic was and has always been hereditary. Nolan, never knowing who his parents were, didn't know what his power was. It didn't matter anyway, he couldn't use them till he was fifteen. Being fourteen meant he was not able to protect himself from his "father". But not for long.

We will leave soon, right before you turn fifteen. I will not let my father hurt you anymore. Said Reiki, I will pacify him with pictures of women for the next few days, but be careful, you know how much he likes to hurt people.

Thank you I said. As he faded from my concisouness, the cellar door opened, letting light pour in.

"Get up," said Robert, "Start chopping wood, you have to pay for Reiki's new tooth."

"Yes sir," I said with my head down. Two more weeks to my Birthday.
