As usual, none of it is mine.

The prompt was someone helping Spock become more "~street yo~." I will leave it at that. It's kind of crack-y?

There was a 91.32% probability that "yo" was a form of greeting, Spock calculated. He decided that he would investigate further upon returning to his quarters.

At the moment, however, he had more pressing concerns. Namely the Cadet seated before him, waiting for his response to a question: "Yo, what's up?"

"There are many thing that could be considered 'up,'" Spock started. "There is a high probability that you are either referring to the sky — in which case I would presume you would like to discuss the weather — or that you speak of some metaphorical usage of the word. In that case, I am afraid I require more information to make a sound judgement on the matter."

The Cadet's eyes got progressively wider as the Vulcan spoke; for all of Spock's logic, his train of thought was not particularly easy to follow. "Sure, we'll go with metaphorical. I mean, when someone asks you that, most people just say 'nothing much, how about you' and leave it at that."

"But that statement is incorrect, for we have both a ceiling and an atmosphere above us in the direction that is considered to be u-" Spock's eyes gazed upwards, as if examining what the boy beside him might be referring to.

"Saying, bro. It's a saying. Go with it."

"With what am I being requested to go?"

"Just.. It. Go with it. Go with the flow, y'know?" The student waved his hands incoherently. "Flow, stuff, I dunno!"

"I see. Am I correct in assuming that this is yet another instance of human illogic?"

"Commander, man, everything is another instance of human illogic."

"I am not your brother, Cadet."

"It's a name. Like dude. Or man. It's just 'bro.'"

"Do you consider yourself an expert in such matters?"

"What matters?"

"Human sayings and colloquialisms."

A confused look flicked across the Cadet's face; why did Spock care? "Uh.. Sure? I guess.." He paused, offering Spock a shrug. "Why?"

"I believe it is typical for one who uses such language to wear their baseball cap backwards," Spock replied, gesturing to the blue cap on the student's head. "Is it not a sign of expertise?"

If the Cadet didn't know better, he'd think the Vulcan was smiling.

I have an idea for a continuation of this, so please let me know if you'd be interested!
