"It's a love story…"
"What?" Her words were quiet, but the inside of her head sounded like a thunderstorm. She blinked a few times, lifting her head off of the couch briefly to stare at him in wonder. He was already far gone into sleep, the lines of his face relaxing and his jaw unclenching. The moment his face softened, she felt her breath catch in her throat, a mixture of unguarded emotion and affection welling up at the sight of the sleeping man next to her.
She assumed he hadn't slept in weeks. This was also the first time she'd seen him calm in four months. He had always reminded her of a child when he slept, the way his face morphed into a gentle whisper of a smile and how he usually tended to curl up into himself. She grabbed the blanket next to her and carefully spread it on top of him, making sure to tuck it under his chin and around his shoulder.
The small purring sound that he made caught her off guard and she watched as he buried his face further into his pillow, making content clucking noises with his mouth before settling back into sleep. She leaned in close, pressing a soft kiss on his head and closing her eyes. She drew back an inch, breathing in the smell of Deeks and absentmindedly bringing a hand up to stroke the back of his head.
"I'm so sorry," she mumbled quietly, feeling the weight of four missing months settle onto her shoulders as she withdrew from him. She was about to get up when she accidentally brushed his hand laying stretched outside the blanket. She felt two fingers grip onto hers lazily and she froze, recognizing the unspoken request of stay. She slowly lowered herself back onto the couch, slipping the rest of her hand into his and curling up so that she was facing him.
Kensi didn't know how long she studied him before she fell asleep, but when Deeks woke up the next morning, his hand was still warm even though she was gone. And for some reason, that made him very happy.
A/N: This is just a quick tag to Ascension. I have a lot of feelings about these two all the time. Hope you enjoyed.
