Max
"Crash!" Came from the sound breaking lab material from falling ceiling debris. I raced down the crumbling and dented corridor. Turing the corning I heard a gasping man. It was Dylan, the person who was made for me. The same person who drove Fang away but at the same time healed me. I wanted to run past him but I didn't. Something inside made me want to stop and listen. Could it be the Voice? Can't be, it's been silent months now.
"Max, I love you. Even though you might of though I was engineered to love you, it's more than that. It's always been more than that. You are beautiful, funny, and sarcastic. Fang was stupid to let you fall. I sorry, I just wish I was able to catch you." Dylan said in a struggling breath.
"You seriously don't mean that." I questioned with disbelief. This man lying on the ground is my other half. Whether I like it or not, he's a person and I can't let him die.
"I love you Maximum." With that Dylan closed his eyes and his chest slowly stopped moving. My Rock, my shoulder to lean on, just died in my arms. The last thing keeping me together after Fang left. I have to push on. My Flock needs me. The floor suddenly vibrates due to huge chunks of cement falling and crushing the floor and leaving holes to the third floor. There's a hole that should be large enough to fit. Okay, just a few more levels. If only those stupid scientists didn't bolt those god damn windows shut, then I'd be out in no time. Just then, the structure begins to fail. Columns and beams fall and crumble more and more as each second pass. Minutes become seconds and the time to escape is diminishing.
The endless hallways are becoming faint. The pounding in my head is growing and the amounts of bleeding cuts are increasing by each passing minute. I'm sorry world . . . I failed. The unbreakable Maximum Ride has fallen.
"Where's Max?" Nudge franticly scoured the rubble for Max. "The building collapsed, but where is she? She can't-" The sentence couldn't be finished. Nudge's sobs were deafening. Iggy desperately tried to calm her, but it was hopeless. Max was gone and she wasn't coming back this time.
"Nudge, I've known Max for most of my life. She never takes this long to escape. She's-"
"Don't say it! Max is the mom I never had."
"But you have to face it. We need to be strong for Max. She would never want to see you like this." Iggy said in a final attempt to calm Nudge. There was no response, just muffled sobs into an already damp shoulder. For the first time in a very long time, Nudge had nothing to say. Silent.
