Jack's footsteps echoed in the empty hallway. The walls that were on either
side of him were plain, leaving Jack to stand out more in his all back
attire.

The aid walked two steps in front of him searching for Jackson's room key.
Finally after what seemed like an endless walk, they reached the destination.
The aid, clad in a white uniform opened the door exposing Daniel to the
outside hallway.

The man spoke. "If he becomes violent knock on the door and help will come."
Not once did he look at the patient curled up against the padded white wall.
Jack only nodded. As he was speaking, O'Neill wanted to choke the nameless
man. He didn't seem to even care if Daniel over heard what was being said.

Jack stood at the doorway until he heard the locks clank. Daniel spoke, his
voice was weak and unsure. "Jack? That you?" He sounded scared, alone.
"Yeah, Danny-boy, it's me." Slowly, he made his way to where his friend sat.
It pained him so much to see his bestfriend like this.

When he got closer, Jack observed that Daniel was very pale, and shaking
uncontrolably. His eyes were rimed red from the tears that had ceased from
flowing.

"How they treating you in here?" He asked lightly, wiping the sweat from
Daniel's arm. "Like I'm crazy." For the first time, Daniel made eyes contact
with his companion. "I'm not crazy, Jack." He whispered. "I know you're not
Danny."

Jack couldn't help but to feel bad for the man sitting beside him. "Why won't
they listen to me, Jack?" Tears slowly now made their desend down Daniel's
cheeks. "I don't know, Danny. They don't want to listen. What they don't know
scares them and they don't want to accept anything other than what they
already beleive to be true." Was his answer.

"I'm scared, Jack." Daniel confessed. "I feel so alone here. Abandoned. I've
never been this scared or felt so alone in my life." Daniel few tears turned
into uncontroled sobs. Daniel bauried his head in his hands and began to let
loose his fears.

Daniel slid to his left where Jack sat, into his arms. Without question, Jack
gathered his wounded friend and held on tight. Jackson shook as the heart
wrenching cries took over in O'Neill's arms. There wasn't anything that could
be done for him but do what was being done.

So, like the good friend that he was, Jack held Daniel while the depression
that consumed him took it's course. He'd seen Daniel cry before on more than
one occation, but never like this.

Never before had he seen him so...far off, so sad, so very much alone. No
matter how much Jack wanted to stay there with him and make sure that he
wasn't alone, he knew that it wasn't so. He knew that he'd have to leave.

For what seemed like forever, Jack held Daniel. Even after the tears
subsided, Jack never let go; neither did Daniel. He was glad that Jack was
there. He didn't think that he could have handled that alone. He knew that
he still can't. But he knew that he would have to. At least until his next
return. But he'd still be alone waiting.
