Was listening to music and this just kinda happened.

People fell all around me. Yellow dust clouded the air. I tried to find Lee. He had been pulled out of the tree and had unsheathed his sword. I ran toward him, dodging claws and swords. I needed to help him; his sword play was terrible. He was skittering around, avoiding the giant's club. A sword hit my side. I grunted and hit the ground. Luckily, my armor held up. I rolled and stabbed him. He fell and I started running again.

Lee had lost his sword. And was breathing hard. The giant swung again. The club hit Lee in the gut. I screamed. Lee hit the ground and the giant raised his club. I stepped in between it and Lee. I slashed and the giant stared at me, confused. I stabbed and he burst into yellow dust. I fell to my knees next to Lee. There was an ear-splitting scream, but I could hardly hear it. He wasn't breathing. I breathed into his mouth. Nothing happened. I did it again and again. He didn't move. I sobbed and laid my head on his chest. I prayed to every god I could think of, even Aries, begging for him to start breathing again.

Steps sounded behind me. I turned and pulled my sword off the ground. It was Silena. I dropped the sword again and turned back to Lee. I closed his eyes and kissed them.

I turned back to Silena and hugged her. I sobbed into her shoulder. She muttered comforting words that meant nothing. Lee was gone.

A couple of guys came with a stretcher to get Lee. I walked with them and held Lee's hand. I stroked it with my thumb. People watched us pass, saying nothing. Every time I met their gaze, I had to hold back a sob. We got to the big house and the healer made me let go of his hand. She stroked his face with her thumb and mumbled something, holding back tears. They were half-siblings, both of them being children of Apollo. She smoothed a sheet over him. I left the room, ready to break down.

Silena waited for me outside. She hugged me and I ruined her shirt with more of my tears. When I was done, she walked back to the Hermes cabin with me. The sympathetic eyes that followed didn't help. I collapsed on my bed, face in my pillow. I wept until I was too tired to cry anymore.

"Cass?" I turned to look at the voice. It was a daughter of Hermes, but I couldn't remember her name. "They're having the ceremony in a half hour."

"Thanks." I managed to mumble. She walked out to give me some privacy. I was the only one in the cabin, which felt odd considering how many campers there are in the Hermes cabin. I opened my bag and pulled out the dress I had bought for our date this Saturday. My eyes welled with tears. I pulled the dress on and did my makeup. This was the last time we would be together. I slipped on my shoes and headed out the door.

The shrouds were laid in the center of the amphitheater. Lee's was plain gold, shimmering in the light of the torch that was set near it. The ceremony was short. With only two speakers. Chiron gave his speech first. He talked about each camper. I cried when he talked about Lee. I realized that I wasn't the only one.

Pollux, whose twin brother had been killed, was the other speaker. He stepped to the center. He got halfway through a sentence and his voice broke. He tried to hold back his tears and start again. His voice broke on the second word. A tear slid down his cheek. He gave up and grabbed the torch. The shrouds went up in seconds. I darted out of the amphitheater and back to my cabin, tears streaming down my face. All I could think was He's gone.
