"I'm fine here. Poor. Alone."

Wesley gave her a chiding look. "You're not alone, Cordelia. You know that."

"Right," she agreed. "Because spending all of my time with a socially-challenged vampire who might go evil at any moment makes me feel popular and loved."

He took another sip of his coffee, avoiding her eyes. "I'm sure I must rate at least slightly higher than that."

She sighed, completely oblivious. "Well sure. But do you remember what happened in the library? Utter disaster!"

"I rather thought the last one was a bit more of a success."

Her mind automatically flashed back to that kiss, and her eyes widened as she nodded. "That is very true…" Cordy trailed off as she turned to look at Wesley. "Are you flirting with me?"

"Of course not!" he replied, a fake laugh bubbling up. But Cordelia just kept staring at him, one eyebrow rising. "P-perhaps," he stuttered, a deep flush coming to his cheeks. "Yes."

She gave him a kind smile. "You've gotten much better at that, too," she said quietly.

Leaning over, she kissed his cheek softly, letting it linger for a second. His breath caught, and then he was turning his head, catching her lips before she could pull away. The kiss was gentle, but she could feel heat behind it – unexpected and smoldering.

Her eyes fluttered open when he pulled back, her mouth moving before her brain could catch up. "You're taking me to dinner tonight, right?"

Wesley smiled. "It would be my pleasure."
