In another's eyes,
I'm someone who
loves her enough
to walk away from you. ..
(Sephiroth sees Aerith for the first time before the destruction of Neiblem. Oh, was she beautiful. Even over the screams of Jenova in his brain, he felt a surge of love for that pure-hearted being.)
I'd never cheat
And I would never lie
in another's eyes.
(Aerith turns those eyes, the same shade as his had been before the mako had taken hold, to him, and smiles. That smile takes his breath away with the warmth it holds. It speaks of absolute faith and trust.)
In another eyes
I can do no wrong
(Aerith smiles at the silver-haired giant of a man, and sees his chest expand in a gasp. She can feel pain, but at the same time sense that he TRUSTS her absolutely. He gives her a quizzical half-smile in return)
He believes in me
And his faith is strong
("Aerith. ..I. . ." but she places a finger over the fine lips. "No need to speak the words, I already know. . ")
I'd never fall
or even compromise
In another's eyes. . .yeah, yeah.
And in another's eyes,
I'm afraid that I can't see.
(Sephiroth drops his eyes, knowing he is not worthy of that which those jade eyes and that brilliant smile offer.)
This picture perfect portrait that they paint of me.
They don't realize,
And I pray they never do,
(Sephiroth waking in his bed, cold sweat pouring down his face. He can still hear the whispers from Jenova in his head saying "Kill the Cetra, she is in your way". His throat is still raw from screaming his way loose of the awful dream, but he finds the voice to say no.)
That every time I look I'm seeing you. ..
In another's eyes.
And in another's eyes,
staring back at me
I see a sinking soul
trying desperatly. .
(Aerith looks up once into Sephiroth's emerald eyes just after he plunges Masamune into her, and sees the shock and bewliderment of what Jenova had made him do.)
To turn the tide,
before it dies.
In another's eyes.
(Sephiroth gasps as he pulls the sword free, and sees Cloud approach. Tears sting his eyes, but he won't show it in front of his enemy, so all there is left for him to do is laugh, and perhaps warn him that he, too, could be forced into killing one he loves. "You are a puppet. . .". And then he is gone.)
And what they don't see
Lord, it's killing me!
(As he walks out of sight of Cloud and his group, his whole body starts shaking, that blazing flare of grief ripping him free of Jenova's control for a time. He drops to his knees, head in hands, ripping silky silver strands out, hoping maybe physical pain would help to distract from the emotional agony in the heart he'd thought long-dead.)
It's a blessing and a curse that love is blind.
(For a moment, just a moment, Sephiroth feels a soft, finely boned hand on his face, and hears a whispered "I forgive you." And then it is gone, and he is alone again.)
And in another's eyes
I'm afraid that I can't see
(Sephiroth laughs insanely as he casts the spell that will bring the Planet's doom, Meteor. All that he has left is his madness.)
This picture perfect portrait that they paint of me.
They don't realize
and I pray to God they never do.
(Sephiroth sees Ultimate above him as Cloud performs his Ominslash, and then feels the stinging bite of the blade, but he welcomes his death now. And as his life bleeds out, he sees a pair of sparkling jade eyes and an outstretched hand. "Come, I am here to bring you Home.")
That every time I look I'm seeing you. .
In another's eyes.
In another's eyes.
(Sephiroth takes Aerith's hand, and wings sprout from his shoulders and light surrounds him as they both step through the gate into Promised Land.)
