A/N: "Revelations" just got me wondering "what if?" Here's my attempted answer.

Contingency

Molly Caffrey never once took her eyes from the syringe holding Sonntag's blood. And, with it, the infection, or death.

Molly had thought through every possibility meticulously, painstakingly. Every one, it seemed, except for this.

This, the worst case of all the worst-case scenarios Molly had familiarized herself with.

They use their human knowledge to spread the infection….

Involuntarily, Molly shuddered. She understood now why there had been no plan for this scenario – it was too horrible to contemplate. Yet, in the form of Carl Sonntag, it was being realized.

Molly was promptly pulled from her thoughts as Sonntag appeared in front of her. A moment later, she felt a sharp stinging as he embedded the needle in her abdomen.

For a moment, she merely stared. Then, plagued with a sudden nosebleed, she sank to the ground, shadowy glimpses of shimmering glass trees encroaching upon her darkening vision.

And Molly Caffrey closed her eyes and prayed for death.

Her eyelids felt heavy, as if the whole world rested on them. Stubbornly, she fought against the weight, and it soon lightened. She opened her eyes slowly and, after a moment, registered her surroundings.

Ah, yes. Now she remembered.

There was Sonntag, looking positively thrilled. And, look, here were her friends.

Friends? She thought back. The memories of her friendships were like those of a former life, but they were still present. And, indeed, that was who the newcomers were. Friends.

She gave them a grateful smile that she knew didn't reach her eyes – but it was too dim for them to tell. They turned to Sonntag, whom they perceived as the immediate threat. Fools.

She watched as one leveled his gun at Sonntag and fired. Apart from acknowledging that that seemed a painful way to die, she was unfazed. Keeping the pseudo-thankful expression on her face, she walked over to her "rescuers". Took their weapons from their hands. And – glad for her enhanced strength – destroyed them.

She laughed as their owners stared at her, open-mouthed. She could sense their terror. And, she admitted to herself, they had good reason to be afraid.

Her cold eyes met those of her friends, and she smiled. The reverend had been right. It would really be the dawn of a new era.
