Disclaimer - I do not own the fairy tale Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs nor the prompt list Mirror came from.

75. Mirror

Soon I will become a Queen. I will be married to the widower King of a nearby kingdom. He is old, and I am still young. I am the most beautiful woman in all the lands. The King will not be able to deny me anything. That kingdom is as good as mine. I will definitely bear a son who will sit on the throne. I must be sure to take along my magic mirror with me. I must ensure that I remain the most beautiful lady in the entire kingdom.

Curses! Curse the kingdom! Curse the King! And most of all, curse that dratted wench! I should have asked! Asked if the widower King had any children. I was to be the Queen of this kingdom. The mother of the future rulers. But, it seems that I was chosen, not to be Queen to the King, but to be a mother to the dratted princess of the previous Queen!

I must be certain. I must be certain that the most beautiful woman in this land is me. Dear mirror, my precious mirror on the wall, tell me who is the fairest of them all. Thank goodness, the fairest in the land is still me. I will make sure to get the people of this kingdom and the King himself to fall deeply in love with me. They will all bow before my beauty and I shall rule over this land. That step-daughter of mine is still young, still a child, insignificant. My children will rule over this kingdom, and not even that silly chit of a girl will block my way.

Dear mirror, my precious mirror on the wall, I ask you every day, and every day you answer the same, but do tell me again, who is the fairest of them all? Years have gone by, and I have aged, but I am and always will be the fairest of all the maidens in this land. My plans have gone well, the King adores me, the people worship me, and my beauty is still without parallel in this land.

More years have gone by, and now my largest potential threat has reached her peak. After this day, my darling step-daughter will either be my little pet or lying in a pool of her own blood. But first, I will confirm that I am indeed the fairest one of them all. Dear mirror, my precious mirror on the wall, I already know the answer, but please do tell me who is the fairest one of them all?

What is this!? How could this be!? How can that silly chit who is barely on the brink of womanhood be fairer than me!? I have no use of a magical mirror who tells me lies!

CRASH.

That will teach you to lie, you lying mirror! But what if it's true? What if Snow White is fairer than me? I have noticed that she grows fairer as the years go by. I must destroy her, before she ruins my plans!

Dear broken mirror, my dear shattered mirror, won't you tell me who is the fairest of them all?
