This is a completely random idea I got...I'm in a rather thoughtful mood I suppose.

Oh, and before I forget, to those who have been expecting Free Captivity's update, forgive me, I've been distracted by school and various other elements.

Now please read and review, feel free to critique if need be. This is, if anything, mostly my musings.

Also, first VK fanfiction, if this really counts.

Not Quite a Song

By Tamashii-x-no-x-Renkinjutsushi

The soft breeze whistled through the trees, creating a sound so full of peace and familiarity it was like a lullaby, the kind mothers sand to small children to ease their fears and chase away nightmares.

The same breeze brushed gentle, sweet-smelling fingers across her cheekbones, through her hair. Her cerulean eyes were half lidded with tiredness as she stared into the distance, seeing nothing.

She felt calm. Somewhere on the precipice between sleep and awake, her mind blank as a clean slate.

Spare the occasional movements of her slender, pale-skinned fingers and the slow rise and fall of her chest as she breathed, she didn't move a muscle; she didn't even twitch.

Most would have felt discomfort from sitting in such a position for so long, but she felt completely at peace.

Listening to the gentle breeze rustling the leaves in the trees, particular the leaves of the one she leaned against, reminded her of a strange little song. A soft melody that was as quiet as the breeze. Unaware of it, she murmured the soft, peaceful tune to herself, the movements of her fingers keeping rhythm.

She comfortably tilted her head back, eyes closed, and murmured the wordless tune a fraction louder. This stilled the movement of her fingers. It seemed a good deal longer than it actually was before the breeze died along with her strange, wordless melody that was not quite a song, but nor could words truly give it justice. Just as the breeze died down, the song along with it.

Movement came from her lap. So sudden she had forgotten there was an audience to her strange humming.

She opened her eyes and shifted her gaze downward, not surprised to see another pair of eyes gazing back.

"You stopped." The indifferent voice held neither complaint nor accusation, and she was unsure of whether he meant the song or the motions.

She ran her fingers through his hair again, except this time she was watching him as his eyes fluttered shut again.

Sighing softly, she raised her eyes to the evening sky, feeling as though she had awoken from a strange dream. It left her feeling strangely numb.

Then that voice, that voice she treasured so dearly spoke again.

"Rima..." He breathed her name with nothing more than a soft sigh.

And hearing this was far more lovely than any mysterious songs in the world.

Well, how was that? Horrible? Wonderful? Please do tell. It is my first Vampire Knight fanficiton and it probably makes little sense. It was a strange little scenario that popped into my head at the most inopportune moment but I wanted to write it down. Yes, it is Shiki and Rima, I most definitely prefer them over the disaster that is Kaname, Zero, and Yuki. I can't stand the three of them anymore.

Well, please review.
