Ascension
And I smile up at you
Through our mingling tears
Rose petals caught in my hair
And stars in my eyes
Our fingers entwined
Though Fate attempts to part us
And red velvet curtains
Leave the unsuspecting audience
With the illusion of our happily ever after
And I study your grief-stricken face
Remembering every smile
To grace your lips
And I thank you
For saving me with
Poetry and silly love songs
And though my wings
Have long since been clipped
It should never stop you from flying.
