"We're getting married!"

The entire guild erupted into cheers. It was no surprise that this would happen, but everyone was happy anyways.

Except for him.

He wanted to be happy, but no matter how much he tried he just couldn't. He knew that soon Natsu would ask him to be his best man, but he would turn it down. He wouldn't go to the wedding. He couldn't. Because he knew, that when he saw Lucy walking down the aisle, he would only think of her.

Her funeral was a long one; a lot of people had something to say. But for him, it seemed so short. His mind couldn't even process what was going on. He looked around him to see tears streaming down his guildmates faces. Lucy and Levy were hugging and crying in one corner. Erza was trying, and failing, to hold back tears. Natsu was holding Wendy, who was shaking and sobbing. Gajeel, when he tried to give her eulogy, burst into tears after the first three words.

He re-focused his attention to the coffin at the front of the room. He knew her body, beaten and bruised, lied inside. He was one of the few that had seen all of her injuries, but even now, it all seemed like it was some kind of dream.

"I promise… I'll take your feeling more seriously, so… Please… just open your eyes…!"

His entire world froze. He held a hand to her neck, above her mouth, to her chest. Nothing. She was gone. Just like that. Black spots clouded his vision as the memories they shared passed by. He was willing to give up his life for her, but he knew she would do the same. He felt her blood slowly seeping into him, healing all his wounds.

He wouldn't let her death go to waste. He would live on, for her sake.

He pushed the old, creaky door aside. Their old house was torn apart, practically in shambles. What wasn't broken was covered in dust, except for the pale blue scarf that hung from the ceiling. He pulled it down, and slowly wrapped it around him, taking in its scent, and feeling its warmth.

He vowed to never take it off again.

Months passed, and eventually he started to move on. Not a day went by that he didn't think about her. One day, he decided it was time for him to go on a mission, after refusing for such a long time. The job was short, but not because of how easy it was supposed to be. Not long after he arrived at the dark guild, one of the members attacked him causing him to bleed. When he saw the red liquid dripping onto the floor, it drove him mad. Her blood. It wasn't his. It was hers.

He didn't want anyone to hurt her ever again.
