The Daughter of Thunder

Prologue

I was in a dark, damp-looking room, alone except for the tall, sharp man, who was seemingly unaware of my presence. He was staring intently at a bowl of what I hope was water. So intent was my focus on his features, I almost didn't notice he was about to speak. "The time will soon be ripe. Until then, we shall have to be patient. Hopefully it will be worth our while. Alecto!" This last word was the summoning of what I assume was this man's slave, which was something I quickly discovered I was incorrect about. From a doorway that had previously gone unnoticed swooped in something that looked like an old lady with wings. "Yes Lord Hades?" it inquired with a voice that sent shivers down my spine. In reply, this man, that I now know I have to be dreaming up, says, "Ready a few hellhounds. It's almost time to test her mettle." The last thing I saw was a bright flash of light, before I woke up.

Chapter 1

School sucks

My eyes flashed open before I even realized I was fully awake.` A strange buzzing noise was able to be heard. I lay there listening for a minute or two before I realized it was my alarm clock. "I don't wanna go to school!" I grumbled. From just outside my door I heard my mom tell me that we sometimes have to do things we don't want to. "But why can't I just be homeschooled?" I asked her. "Come on, Iona, you know us better than that. You know we're too busy for that! Getting up, I went over to my full-length mirror to judge how much make-up I would need- and stopped. "I don't even look like I've been sleeping..." My straight blonde hair was still in straight rows, and my eyes were looking bright, without any shadows or puffiness under them. Shrugging, I changed into my school uniform that tightly hugs my 5 foot 7 inch petite body. Grabbing my backpack, I head downstairs to our kitchen for breakfast. My parents, who aren't really my parents, but actually my adoptive parents, are waiting downstairs with my foster siblings Georgia and Mark. "Hey guys! I decided school actually sounds kind of fun today. Hey Georgia, would you believe I woke up like this?"

"Omg no way! You gotta tell me how you did it!" She says in her rapid-fire, average girl-next-door manner.

"I would tell you, but I wish I knew myself. I must have slept like a rock." I reply, laughing the whole while at her disappointed look.

Of course, as a result, I got scolded. "Now, Iona, it isn't nice to laugh at the disappointment of others." Chided my tall, brown haired dad gently. "Now, if you don't get to eating you'll miss the bus."

"AWWW come on! School sucks!" I yelled in despair.
