I sat on the roof of my house, soaking up the sunlight. Ever sense the events of last summer, I'd decided that sunlight was much better that dark caves with lakes of lava.
I took a deep breath in through my nose and caught the scent of lavender. I smiled as Madison, now my official girlfriend, called my name.
I closed my eyes and focused on the ground in front of my house. Instantly, my body caught on fire and I flame jumped to the location. Madison stood in front of me with a playful smile and her hands on her hips. Her golden hair gleamed in the sun and her blue eyes were bright with excitement.
"We're going to be late to school, Jake." She said, trying to be serious.
"It's the last day, no one will care." I said, taking her hand. "Besides, I can do this."
As I spoke, I focused on the parking lot of our school. A wave of warmth washed over both of us as we made the jump.
"That's cheating." She said, playfully as she dragged me towards the school.
I simply rolled my eyes and allowed myself to be dragged along. We reached the school and I opened the door for her. She smiled and stepped inside and I followed her just as the bell rang.
"I'll see you after class." I said before leaning in and lightly kissing her nose. "Bye."
"Bye." She said with a small smile before walking away.
I watched her for a moment before walking to my first class.
I sat in my desk with my eyes closed and my headphones in. Despite this, I was completely aware of everyone in the room. One of the perks that came with being a son of Typhon was the heightened sense of smell. I could identify almost anyone in the same room as me, everyone had a unique scent that belonged to them and them alone.
I opened my eyes as I caught the scent of two boys, Allen and Keith, the school's bullies. They stood on either side of my desk, looking down at me.
"Yes?" I asked, irritably as I pulled my headphones out of my ears.
"Don't play dumb, Fuller." Keith said. He was a hulking boy who's hand could wrap cover your entire face. "We're still pissed about what happened last week."
I smirked, remembering the misadventure. A monster had found its way into the school and was running around in search of food. I had to lock the two of them in the supply closet for their own safety. Evidently, I forgot about them and they stayed there overnight.
"And now that the teacher's gone, we're going to get even." Allen said with a sneer.
"You'll just get in trouble." I said, as I closed my eyes again, not taking the threat seriously.
"But it's the last day. They can't do a damn thing." Keith said as he yanked me to my feet. I reacted immediately and brought my knee into his gut before slugging him in the jaw. He staggered backwards. I then turned to face Allen who, being much smaller and smarter, walked away.
About that time, the teacher came back in and I sat down. Keith shot me a look, but I simply smiled and returned to my music.
A/N: Well, here's the first chapter! Just a heads up, this story is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster, so prepare yourselves. There is one major thing that's going to happen to Jake that I find rather hilarious and can't wait to write about *laughs diabolically*
