One shot
Harry Potter sat in the great hall staring at the woman he was in love with soundly sleeping on her mothers shoulder. The air was heavy with dust and the stench of dried blood. Harry was amazed at how many witches and wizards were there and willing to fight, now crying on each others shoulders or sprawled out the cold stone floor.
Harry noticed that Cho Chang had showed, she was sitting at the end of the table, staring at him. He nodded to her appreciably. Ginny stirred across the great hall and slowly opened her tired eyes, stretching her arms out. She smiled at Harry, with a relieved look on her face and put her head down on the table for more rest.
Feeling a bit dizzy, Harry stood up from his spot on the bench, causing it to squeak. Heads turned his way and he quickly dashed out into the sunny outdoors, seeking fresh air. He stood in the open air taking in his surroundings. Hogwarts was a disaster. Walls had crumbled, half the school was gone and, to Harry's dismay, the quidditch pitch was no longer standing.
He made his way over to where it used to be and stood in the green grass that had not been burned by the fire.
"Harry!" said a desperate voice behind him. He turned to find Ginny Weasley standing a few feet away from him, out of breath.
"Ginny." The two walked toward each other, Ginny ran into his arms, a single tear running down her face.
"Oh Harry, I thought you were . . ." she decided to stop there so she wouldn't have a break down.
"I know, well I was but . . ."
"Tell me." was all she said.
They sat down leaning against a tree, shading them from the burning sun, "Well, I went to Voldemort so he would kill me, I couldn't stand to let him kill anyone else I loved, he would have, he knew, he always knew."
She looked at Harry quizzically, "Knew what?"
"Ginny, the only reason I ended things with you was because I didn't want Voldemort to use you just to bring me to him. I wanted him to think that I wasn't in love with you. But I was, I always was and I still am." he paused, "Anyway, I let him kill me, I saw Dumbledore in what I think was heaven. He told me I could either move on or go back. And I chose to stay, not because I had to kill Voldemort, realized anyone can really. I stayed because I couldn't even imagine spending the rest of forever without you."
Ginny's eyes widened, "Thank you." she said, a smile spreading across her face.
"What for?"
"Staying." she smiled.
They sat under the tree for a moment, Harry's arm around Ginny.
"I love you Harry." Ginny finally said.
Harry closed his eyes, taking it all in, "I love you too."
They stayed under the tree where they fell asleep in each others arms. When they woke up, it was dark, only a few stars shown brightly in the sky. They stood up and began to make their way to the castle when Harry caught Ginny's lips on his. It was a kiss like never before, filled with love and longing. Once they broke apart, gasping for breath, Ginny's ears turned red.
The castle was brightly lit. Only a couple people were sitting at the tables, including McGonagall.
"Excuse me?" Harry asked, walking over to where she sat. She saw that they were holding hands and smiled.
"Yes Mr. Potter?"
"Uh, where is everyone?"
"They left for home not too long ago, I expect you two should scurry home yourselves." she added.
Harry nodded appreciatively and walked back outside with his girlfriend.
McGonagall watched from the window as the couple made their way down the dirt path, laughing and smiling like there was no other place in the world they would rather be.
