Travelin Soldier

A/N: Yes, the idea came from the song Travelin Solder by the Dixie Chicks. It's short and sweet, just the way I like it. Read and Review please.

Flashback

The girl's long flowing locks were down with a bow holding her hair back like a headband. When he looked at her she smiled and her chocolate eyes smiled as well.

"Would you mind sitting down with me for a while and talking to me; I'm feeling a little low." He said moving his duffel bag towards the wall of the booth.

"I'm off in an hour and I know where we can go." She said with her award winning smile. She took his order and walked away to turn it in.

An hour later they were sitting down at the pier and he looked over at her. The wind was blowing her locks behind her and the sun highlighted her beautiful cream colored, flawless skin. "I bet you've got a boyfriend, but right now I don't care. I've got no one to send a letter to. Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?" He said it as he fixed his uniform of army greens.

She began to cry as she spoke. "I'm never gonna hold the hand of another guy. They'll say I'm too young for you Mr. Travelin Soldier. But I'll wait for your love and I know it'll never end. When you get back I'll be waiting for the love of my travelin soldier."

End Flashback

The girl arrived home to find a letter from the young army man. Her smile lit up and she ripped it open as fast as her fingers would allow. This was the third letter she received, this time for Vietnam. The first from an Army camp, then California, now he was on the battle field, but his words still whispered to her sweetly.

I wanted to tell you of my heart and the love that there might be, but I'm scared of all these feelings. When it's getting kinda rough over here I think of that day sitting down by the pier and I close my eyes and I see your pretty smile, but don't worry about me I might not be able to write for a while.

Sincerely yours, Travelin Soldier

The following Friday at the football game the lords prayer was said and then the anthem sang. Following that a man stood up and walked to the microphone. "Hello folks. Would you mind bowing your heads for a list of the local Vietnam dead?"

The girl with the long flowing locks pushed back by a bow was crying all alone under the stands. She held her piccolo tightly; she was a player in the marching band. She listened as one name was read and no one seemed to care except the pretty little girl with that bow in her hair. After the man took his seat and the game started the girl went over the vow she gave to the travelin soldier.

"I'm never gonna hold the hand of another guy. They'll say I'm too young for you Mr. Travelin Soldier. But I'll wait for your love and I know it'll never end. When you get back I'll be waiting for the love of my travelin soldier." She wiped her tears, because now her soldier had a name, Inuyasha Takashi. "I will hold my promise to you my dear Inuyasha. I will never love another man as much as I love you. I Kagome Higurashi promise this in your honor."
