In honor of Mother's day approaching, I am writing a small series of vignettes about our favorite and the way they deal with these holidays. The first two will be about Raven and Starfire and then we'll move on to the others. My plan is to have this finished by Mother's Day :)
Read and Review :)
Disclaimer: I don't own them, but I cry for them.
Holidays are an invariable part of life, certain days chosen throughout the year to celebrate with family and friends.
The Titans celebrated each and every holiday that was listed on the Earth calendar, and even some that weren't thanks to Starfire's delight at each joyous occasion.
Every holiday that is, except for two. Two days a year they were unusually silent, even Star avoided the malls and stores during the weeks preceding the holidays. After all, none of them had parents anymore.
"Raven?" Starfire sat beside her friend, hovering in mid air as they did every afternoon meditating.
"What is it Star?" Raven was used to these small interruptions by now, not that she liked them any more now than she had in the beginning, but she was more accepting of them.
"Did you have a mother?" The question was as innocent as the wide eyed gaze Star pinned her with.
Raven opened one eye and looked at her friend. "Everyone has a mother Starfire."
"No," Starfire shook her head and waved her hands around to punctuate her statements. "I mean, did you have someone to sing you to sleep when you were afraid? Someone to hold you when you cried or were hurt? Did you have a mother?"
Not sure where this thought had come from Raven still took a moment to formulate her answer. She was more forthcoming with her friends these days, but that didn't mean she told them everything. There were some things they just wouldn't understand.
"I was raised by the monks on Azarath; my mother was just another caretaker when I saw her, which was a rare occasion. I don't have parents the way that you mean Star, I don't cry because there is no one to wipe my tears; I don't give in to fear, because there is no one to take it away. There is only me," She sighed impatiently when Star's eyes filled with tears. "Don't cry for me Star, I can't miss something I never had."
"Then I shall miss it for you," Star said stubbornly.
