"Ah...Kajimoto-kun..."
"Hm?" The captain of Jyosei Shounan turned from the window, facing his coach.
Hanamura kept her eyes on the road. "That was a wonderful game of doubles you played with Mizuki-kun."
"Um...thank you." The corner of Kajimoto's mouth lifted slightly at the praise.
The otherwise heart-warming moment was ruined by the next statement from the red-haired female, however -
"Not a lot of people have that sort of natural talent for doubles. Would you like to play doubles, instead of singles...?"
"No." Kajimoto's answer was firm and slightly defiant. "Absolutely not."
Hanamura did some scarily fast spinning of her hands and the car promptly pulled over. "Why not, Kajimoto-kun? You'd be so wonderful, even more of a masterpiece than you are now," Hanamura whined, turning to face her student.
"It's like an unwritten rule," Kajimoto protested. "Captains just don't play doubles."
Hanamura scoffed. "What was that back there, then, with Mizuki-kun? What do you call the famed Atobe/Kabaji pair of Hyotei - "
Kajimoto interrupted. "Sensei, that was a once in a lifetime thing. And you can hardly call that doubles, all Atobe-san does is sit there while Kabaji-kun takes care of everything--!!"
"But...but you'd be so good," Hanamura complained, crossing her arms and pouting. "You work so well with others, and you have a natural leadership quality in you! Why can't we be special and have the first team that has a doubles-playing captain?"
Kajimoto hesitated. "Well...even if I did agree, who would be my partner? We can't split apart the Unit, Oota and Kiriyama are just too good of a pair - "
Hanamura grinned wickedly. She had the fish hooked, now to reel it in...
"How about Wakato-kun?"
The coordination specialist was actually very amused when Kajimoto quickly agreed, blushing, and even more so when her new Kajimoto-Wakato pair demolished the Oshitari-Mukahi pair of Hyotei in practice matches, 6-0.
...And no, it had nothing to do with the fact that Mukahi Gakuto pointing and laughing throughout the whole game at Kajimoto's doubles two rank was very distracting to Oshitari, who was already disturbed by the fact that Jyosei'd put their strongest player in doubles.
Owari.
