if we were nothing (we'd last forever)
a/n: lestrangecest warning
We'll get married, and we'll have to stop behaving this way.
Neither Rodolphus nor Rabastan ever said it aloud, but the thought was still there, hanging over their heads. Their relationship could only continue until one of them got down on one knee. Both of them had silently hoped it would never happen. But their father, of course, had Rodolphus betrothed to Bellatrix.
Both of them resented it. Rodolphus could hope, but he could tell the marriage was destined to be a loveless one. And Rabastan - he would not only lose Rodolphus in all but the most innocent of senses, but he would have to give him to a woman who barely hid her disinterest in the whole thing.
The pair made the most of the time they still had together, trying their best to keep any thoughts of the impending wedding out of their heads. But they couldn't forget, no matter how much they wanted to, that their romantic bond would have to be severed too soon for their liking.
They wished things wouldn't have to change after Rodolphus got married. but to continue would be infidelity, and as purebloods, that was disapproved of just as much as their relationship itself.
Neither Rodolphus nor Rabastan liked it, but that was the way things had to be.
