He tried to regain control of his emotions, and tried to keep his tears in check. He hadn't cried since he was a child; he hadn't cried when his comrades fell around him; he hadn't cried when news of his village's ruin came to him from across the channel; and he had not cried that fateful night in Suka's dungeon. The dark queen of the Sedjai was cruel and heartless. She tortured him until he'd wanted to scream, cry, plead like a child. But she was there then, she had helped him to be strong. She wasn't now. All he had left was broken dreams and empty promises, a whisper of love that had once held him on top of the world. But now he was down in the pits of despair.

Those nights seemed like a lifetime ago, but it had only been two weeks since her capture. It seemed nothing could make things right again. Except...
