A Letter to Draco

Dear my love,

If you're reading this, it only means one thing. Forgive me for breaking my promise. I never would have left you if it was up to me to decide. But alas, the fates have spoken.

Don't cry, my love. If anything, I want you to smile whenever you think of me. I always hate it when you're sad for it absolutely breaks my heart. So remember those happy memories we have made on the course of our long and fruitful marriage. My life with you has never been a dull one. With your penchant for mischief, it was like living with a troublesome five-year-old. Now don't pout; you know it's true. You raised a lot of trouble back in the days, dear. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Nothing made me so much happier than when I was with you. Even without doing anything, I was content. When we sit on our porch swing on a summer afternoon, my hand in yours, while we look at the children playing in the garden, I knew complete bliss.

You made me so happy that I could only hope I made you feel the same. You, my love, along with Aurora, Orion, and Cassandra, are my treasures in life, and I thank the heavens above for giving me the opportunity to love you with all that I am.

You know I try to live my life without any regrets, and for the most part, I succeeded. But now, perhaps my only regret is not being with you to see the children grow. There is no doubt in my mind that you will take good care of them; you always have been the best father and husband a woman could ever wish for.

I leave my sunburst necklace to my Aurora, my light. Tell her that I approve of her handsome young man, and even if you don't admit it, I know you do too. Tell her it's okay to not be in control once in awhile. That opening her heart and life to someone worthwhile can give her the best adventure she's been craving. Come now, even though Aurora is no longer a child, she's still and will forever be your little cupcake.

Orion, the mini you, will be Head Boy come September first, and I am so proud of him. I know you feel he's ready to learn about the ins and outs of the family business, and with his sharp mind, he's perfect to take over the company once you retire. Orion might not be ready yet for his special someone to come mess up his life, but do give him my engagement ring soon and tell him to give it to that feisty girl who can keep him on his toes.

For my baby Cassie, who loves books as much as I did, I hope she'll find comfort in my favorite Hogwarts, A History as she starts her first year. Tell her that I would be utterly proud of her no matter where the Sorting Hat will put her. I hope she will enjoy the majestic school and learn as much as she can while being there.

And for you, my love, the man who has given me everything and more, I give you this little music box. Dancing with you is one of my favorite pastimes, and this song has a special place in my heart. How could I forget the time you joined me watching Beauty and the Beast when I was feeling particularly down? You even bought me ice cream. And the next day, you gave me this music box, and we danced all night to the tune of the movie's theme song. Me in my plain pajamas, and you in your smart clothes. But you didn't care, and so I didn't care, and all I could think about was: My sweet, sweet man, how I love you so.

Even if we are apart now, ours is a love that can never wither and die. We've been through a lot to raise this family, and though it pains me to leave your side, I hope this music box will serve as a reminder of my love for you.

Be happy, my love. Live your life for me. And know that I'll be here waiting to have our next big adventure. After all, death is one big mysterious journey.

Until then,

Your wife, best friend, lover and partner,

Hermione
