Each chapter will be a new drabble that covers a different aspect of Brennan's life raising Andy. Every drabble will, therefore, contain spoilers for episode 3.12 – The Baby in the Bough, and possibly others.

The first time he looks at her with those deep blue eyes – so young and yet so full of understanding – Brennan falls in love. She doesn't know it at the time, of course; all she wants to do is solve the murder without an infant getting in the way. And it isn't as though she has a lot of experience with children, being the youngest sibling in her dysfunctional family. But when she holds him, struggling to maintain a firm grasp on his squirming body, the feeling of warmth in her arms is surprisingly pleasant; if only for a moment, she can imagine herself raising a child of her own.

As soon as the baby is no longer pressing against her chest, however, the vision dies, leaving her feeling incredibly foolish for letting her mind wander while on the job.

Determined to make up for her momentary lapse in concentration, she is pleased to discover a key nesting in the lining of the young boy's diaper bag, forcing Booth to rush off in search of an evidence bag, while she is left alone with the baby.

She finds herself less comfortable around the child without Booth's presence; after only a moment he is already crying. Frantically attempting to quiet him, she resorts to her own defense mechanism, spouting off useless facts. Elephants are not purple, this is wrong.

(Not much of a fact, but true nonetheless.)

Thankfully Booth comes to the rescue, managing to hush the child while also reminding her why she has no children. (What kind of mother could she ever be if she can't even comfort a baby?)

Once she learns he will be staying with them until the key has exited his system – another fault of her own – she finds herself beginning to anticipate the prospect of spending more time with him.

Then he pees on her leg.
