It was a bright and beautiful day in the Land of Ooo. Marceline emerged from the ground like a gopher. Her friends were still deep in the earth battling monsters. Although she really wanted to help Finn and Jake, she was too distracted about her girlfriend. She couldn't stop thinking about her hair, her smile, everything she liked about her. Her thoughts about Bubblegum were interrupted by Finn and Jake's return to the surface.
"That was awesome!" Jake exclaimed.
"So, what do you want to do now, bro?" Finn asked.
"Let's go battle dragons!" Jake suggested.
"Yeah man!" Finn fist pounded him.
"So Marceline, what do you have going on?" Jake asked.
"Well, I'm hanging out with Bubblegum tonight," Marceline blushed.
"Oh, well, have fun with that, I guess," Finn was weirded out by this. He thought that Marceline and PB hated each other.
"Yeah, Marcy, see ya!" Jake stretched him and Finn out of there.
Marceline laughed to herself. She thought it was cute that they thought she didn't like Bubblegum, even though the complete opposite was going on. After spending some time in a graveyard jamming on her bass, she returned to her house.
Marceline was nervous. Today was her 3rd date with the Princess. She wanted to make it special, but had no idea how to impress her.
She spent all afternoon planning. When she was about to give up, she came up with the perfect idea.
They met at Princess Bubblegum's castle. She looked perfect and girly, as she always did. After exchanging small talk, Marceline led Bubblegum off to their date.
"So, what did you have in mind?" Bubblegum asked slyly.
"Well, I thought that maybe we could go to my dad's old house in the Hedtaun Forest. It's due a visit."
"Aww Marcy, I hate old houses!"
"Please, Bubblegum? It's one of my favorite spots. Marceline looked deep into her eyes.
"Fine. But next time, we're going to the candy fields." Marceline gave Bubblegum a bone-crushing hug for agreeing to this.
"I love you, Bonnibel!"
The walk to this house was jagged and ghoulish. This was the most dangerous forest in the Land of Ooo, and Bubblegum jumped at every turn.
"It's okay," Marceline reassured, "You'll be safe with me."
By the end of the walk, Bubblegum felt like her heart was going to explode out of her chest. Seeing the house didn't help. It was creaky looking and rotting. But, she would be brave, for Marceline.
The house was eerily dark for this time of day. The hallways were lined with spider webs, and the sounds of ghost shook the ground they walked on. Hauntingly beautiful gothic music was lightly playing from a hidden source. Bubblegum wasn't used to this kind of environment. She began to tense up. Marceline could feel this.
"Is this too much for you?" She asked.
Bubblegum took a deep breath. "Yes. I'm sorry Marcy. I'm just not used to this." She started to tear up.
"Oh Bonnie, don't apologize! I shouldn't have forced you to do this when I know how much you hate scary things." Marceline had never been more compassionate in her life.
"Well, that's not 100% true. You're kind of scary. But I don't hate you." Bubblegum smiled.
"Oh glob, you're so sweet,"
"Well, I am made of sugar. It's my nature." Bubblegum hugged her.
Marceline secretly wished that Bubblegum was more tough. But, she also liked that she was made of sugar. The Nightosphere was great, but it wasn't good for her mind to be completely black. This is why she had her Princess. She helped sweeten up the light from the darkness that she constantly felt. She wished that things could have stayed like this forever.
