The Talk
by Starsinger
Kitty calls her mother to tell her the news. This is set during "Damned" so this is going to go over really well. Still don't own them.
Kitty sighed as Ororo perched on the end of the bed she shared with Peter. "You're going to have to tell her," she said. She'd repeated the same thing three times all ready. It was something Peter had been telling her since they got back from Shaw's residence. Ororo put an arm around her shoulders, "It's not like you're fourteen and he's nineteen anymore."
"I know, she's still my mother, she wanted me to finish college…" her words trailed off.
"You're not a baby having a baby," she reminded the young woman. "He didn't leave you when he found out either," she tapped Kitty's left hand where her engagement ring rested. She's going to have to deal with the reality of the man you chose."
Kitty took a deep breath and picked the cell phone up and pushed the dial button for her mother's number. "Hello?" came the harassed sounding voice.
"Hi, Mom, is this a bad time?" Kitty replied.
"No, but you did just give me an excuse to kick your cousin, Sophie, and her kids out. No, Sophie, Kitty is my daughter, and we need to talk. All right, see you tomorrow. Not if I can help it," Kitty heard her mutter under her breath. Kitty stifled a laugh. "So, how are you?"
"I'm fine, Mom, I've got some news!" she said as positively as she could.
"You're going back to school?" came the hopeful reply.
Kitty sighed, "No, Mom, I'm getting married."
"I thought that Russian boy died. What was his name, Peter?"
Kitty's jaw dropped open; her mother had never referred to Peter as anything but "that Russian boy". She didn't even think she remembered his name. "No, Mom, he's alive, and we're getting married."
"Are you pregnant?" came the inevitable question.
Kitty sighed, she couldn't avoid this question, "Yes, Mom, I'm…"
"Please, tell me it's twin girls. I had a dream. Ever since your father was killed…" her mother's voice trailed off in disbelief.
Kitty's mother had had dreams before, but no one but the telepaths had been able to tell the sex, much less that there were two of them. "Mom, how? Only a few people know that…"
"Like I said my dream. You're an adult, now, Kitty. I can't tell you how to run your life. I do know that you've been in love with…Peter since you were a teenager. After he was gone you just couldn't seem to move on with your life. If you'd like, I'll come up for a couple of weeks. Actually, I'm begging, your cousin…"
Kitty laughed, Sophie was well known as a meddler. Any unmarried female within a three block radius, regardless of age, religion, or sexual preference, wasn't safe. Women ran when they heard she was coming, "She's still convinced she's found you a husband?"
"You have no idea. At least, now, she won't be able to hound me about your single status. You know, my imminent grand motherhood might give me an excuse not to let her in…"
"Anything I can do to help, Mom. Just let me know when you'll be up," Kitty ended the surprising conversation.
"That went well?" Ororo asked.
"She actually remembered Peter's name. I didn't even have to give it to her!" Kitty was very surprised. The older woman smiled. The news of Kitty's pregnancy had run like wildfire through the mutant community. Some had even gone so far as to offer her shelter at their places. They were worried, Hank had not heard from Brand in several days and no one had been able to contact the Peak.
Ororo looked out the window, "I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I have a big feeling that you'll be somewhere near the center." As it was, Terri didn't get out to see her daughter until after the twin's tumultuous arrival.
