James Potter stepped into his usual compartment on the Hogwart's Express only to find the person he least expected to see. "L-Lily?"
"Yes, it's L-L-Lily." The girl before him laughed. This girl, who was the same age as James, wore a high ponytail full of bouncy red curls. She had emerald green eyes that were the most stunning thing that he had ever seen.
"But-but. Didn't you move to France so you could go to Beauxbatons?"
"Well, as a matter of fact, I did. You didn't think that I just blew off last school year, did you?"
"Of course not! But why are you back for third year?"
"Doesn't your family get the Prophit?" James shook his head. "Well you really ought to. In statistics, its 87 percent better than--"
"Did you only come back to lecture me?"
The compartment door swung open. "Of course not, you dunder-head." James's best friend and partner in crime was standing there. "She came to see me." He grinned and walked over to where Lily was standing and put his arms around her. When Lily finally realized that Sirius was fake-kissing her, she blushed, pulled away, and slipped him hard across the face. "Whaddya do 'at for?" Sirius asked, collapsing onto what he thought was the seat.
"Ow--ch!" Remus Lupin yelled, shoving Sirius off of him. "Why'd ya sit on me?"
"Sorry, Moo--. Er, Remus. Didn't see ya there.
Remus laughed. "Yeah. Sure." He turned to James. "So you really don't know what happened?"
James shrugged. "No, why?"
Remus shot a glance over at Lily and quickly said, "I better let Lily fill you in on it."
"Thanks, Moony." Lily smiled a sly, evil smile that would have made the Sorting Hat put her in Slytherin in an instant.
Remus paled. James and Sirius paled too, but neither compared to Remus. The palest friend gulped and asked, "H-how did you know?"
"Well, the last part was when Sirius here almost called you Moony. But I started figuring it out in first year."
Sirius leapt out of the way, knowing that a punch would soon be headed in his direction, and, soon enough, one was.
"Why you little…" Remus began, but was cut off by Lily's commanding throat clearing.
"As I was saying," she began. "Something happened at Beauxbatons last June. Something t-terrible. V-Voldemort--" James's eyes widened. "Well, he attacked the school. A-and a boy died. A boy died, James!"
James decided to try and ask Lily a question, even though she was in hysterics. "Erm, Lily?"
"What?" she snapped.
"Who? Who was this boy?"
"My-my boyfriend. His name w-was--" Lily couldn't take it anymore. She burst into tears. "He's gone, James! He's gone! What am I going to do without him?"
James thought for a moment. He had always liked Lily Evans, but he had never actually asked her to be his girlfriend. He decided that now was the time. "Well," he began. "Either you are going to think I'm an insensitive prick, which I'm not, or you're going to say yes."
Lily looked up at him with her big green eyes.
"I know what you're going to do without him. You'll have me. I'll be your boyfriend if you want…" He trailed off, not knowing how to stop.
Lily wiped a tear out of her eye. "Well, I do have to say that that is somewhat insensitive." She slapped him lightly across the side of his face. "I'll have to think about it, but maybe…"
A/N: Cliffie, huh? I'm so evil! Maybe it's because it's late at night, or maybe it's just because my favorite football team just handed their opponents three first downs, I don't know. All I know is that you will review and tell me what you think. And that you will eventually learn what is going on.
An author skips away from you, an evil grin plastered on her face.
