Perfect
The Power Rangers were all gathered at the Youth Center for their victory party. Ernie had baked a huge cake, and everyone was there, including the kids from the shelter, which made sense, since it was also their victory. The money won would keep the shelter from closing.
Kat was with Tanya and Adam. They were talking about their recent job interviews for the summer. At least, Adam and Tanya were talking. Kat was too busy watching Tommy, who was at the counter, talking to Jason, his girlfriend, Emily, and... Kimberly.
Get a grip Katherine. She told herself. They're still friends. Kim has a boyfriend in Florida. As for Tommy, well, he has me, I guess. I'm not exactly his girlfriend, but...
"Kat, Earth to Kat. Do you read me?" Adam's voice snapped her back to reality.
"Oh, sorry. I just spaced out for a bit." Kat blushed, embarrassed.
"What are you looking at?" asked Tanya, even though she already had a pretty good idea.
"Never mind that. What were you saying Adam?" Adam continued telling them about the stunt show he might work on over the summer. But Kat wasn't listening.
"Would you excuse me for a moment?" she asked. "I need some fresh air."
"We'll come with you." Adam began, but Tanya silenced him with a look that said Leave her alone. Adam got the message.
Kat left the Youth Center and decided to go to the park. She went to her favorite spot, up in a tree. This wasn't easy, since she was wearing heels. Even though she wasn't under Rita's spell anymore, she still liked high places. Mostly because it was where she could get some privacy.
She was all settled when she heard voices. She nearly fell out of the tree. Kat peeked through the leaves. It was Tommy and Kim!
Kat froze. She didn't want them to know she was there.
"So, how are things in Florida?" She heard Tommy ask.
"Great," Kimberly replied. "Coach Smchidt is a really good coach. I've learned a lot from him. And my teammates are really nice."
"What about, um, what's his name?" Tommy said.
"Trevor." Kim supplied. "Oh, he's mad at me. He doesn't want me to move back here after the Pan Globals, and I don't want to stay there."
"Oh." Kat gasped. She could not believe this was happening. Katherine wanted to cry. But she couldn't, at least, not until they were gone. Their voices were growing faint. She couldn't hear what they were saying anymore. But that didn't matter. She'd heard enough.
After making sure that they were gone, Kat hoped out of the tree. Slowly, she walked back to the Youth Center. When she got there, she sat down on the steps and cried and cried.
* * * * * *
"Kat," she heard a voice say softly. "Are you okay?"
Katherine looked up and saw Tommy standing over her. She wiped her eyes.
"I'm fine." she lied.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
Kat nodded.
Tommy sat down next to her. "Can we talk?"
Oh, no!
she thought. She held back tears. She just nodded again."You know that racing job with my uncle?" He didn't wait for a reply. "Well, I just found out the other day that I got it."
Kat relaxed. "Oh, Tommy, that's wonderful."
Tommy was silent. Now it was her turn to be concerned.
"Tommy, what's wrong?" she asked, worried.
"It starts the 26th." He said, finally.
Katherine gasped. "But that means you'll miss graduation."
"I know. I won't be able to hear your speech."
Kat laughed. "Believe me, there are more important things than my speech. Which, so far, is nonexistent."
Tommy laughed, too. "I take it you don't mind?"
"Of course not. You deserve this job. We'll miss you, but..." her voice trailed off.
Tommy took her in his arms. "Kat?"
"Yes?"
"One last thing." He told her.
"What?" she asked.
"I love you." he whispered.
Kat smiled and gave him a kiss. Now things were just about perfect.
The End.
