Bones: Calling the Shots, and Buyin' Another Round
Title: Alexz Johnson, "Easy"
by: jewel of athos
Summary: In which Hannah reflects on her unique friendship with Brennan. Tag to "The Body in the Bag". Little spoilers.
Author's Note: Alright, so not all of my previous fics have looked…kindly on Hannah, I suppose. And at the end of the day, I still prefer B/B over Booth/Hannah. But I really LIKE Hannah as a character (and she might as well have her fair chance with Booth too, haha ;).), and I thought she was adorable in this episode. Thus, a little, thoughtful piece, trying to learn her voice a little. I think it turned out okay ;).

"Barkeep! Another round, Barkeep!"
I think that word is the start of a different kind of friendship between us. It's something different, and a little old-fashioned; but in it I've noticed a level of trust that wasn't there before. I'd never heard Temperance talk about her childhood before then, but that innocent fact that she'd shared about Western's let me understand something about her; a little bit more than she realized, I think.
The circumstances under which we'd met – and under which Seeley and I had met – could certainly not be considered normal. And I think because of that, my relationship with Temperance has always been a little bit strange. I guess we've never been quite sure of where either of us stood before. But now we are. And I know I can trust her not to betray me, even if she does have feelings for Seeley. Also, while I want her to be happy, I'm glad that I don't have to wonder about what things would have been like between them if things had gone differently. I can handle the stress and the pressure of being under fire, but I don't think that I could deal with being involved in that much of a love triangle. I like things how they are just fine.
I guess that there's something about the liberation of telling secrets and late night drinks that makes me thoughtful. Well, as much as one can be thoughtful after three or four or five shots. But I like it. I'm glad that she feels like we can still be friends, even though I have what she wants. I really think that we can be great friends; and I hope that she can move on.
Until then, of course, we'll always have our little jokes to remind us of this night, and that we do trust each other.
"Barkeep!"
fin.

A/N: So…yeah. I really liked this last scene, and I'd actually like to play around with it some more (so further fic may or may not follow). But this was my initial, written reaction to that episode. Thanks for reading!
