An Ode to Dialogue
by: Lou

"You don't have to do this."

"I know that. I'm choosing to do it."

"Why?"

"You make it seem like it's such a big deal. Honestly, just hand it to me."

"But why? Why now? And why…this?"

Sigh. "Don't look so appalled. You act like eating it is a crime. What are you so afraid of? Just give it to me."

"Bella, love,"

"Edward, love!"

"Tell me the real reason for the fruit."

Sigh again. "Well, back in Phoenix, my mom and I would eat them together. I used to really enjoy them and I haven't had one in forever. Now if – you – would…please give it to me!"

"Hm."

"What does that mean?"

"You're not telling me something."

"That's it! Really! I just want the grapefruit!"

"Have I ever told you how attractive you are when you're angry?"

Pause. "Please, Edward? Please…give it to me."

"That's unfair. You can't just catch me off guard like that."

"Why not? You do it to me all the time."

"That's different."

"Well, if dazzling is out, I guess I'll just have to – oh hi, Alice!"

Laugh. "Did you really think I would fall for that? You know that I would have heard her thoughts if she were really there."

"Damn it. Why don't you just give me the grapefruit?"

"One, because this is a fun game we're playing. Two, because I know you won't like it and I'm trying to save you from having to suffer."

"Is that really all?"

"Well…"

"I didn't think so."

"Three, I get the feeling that there are other reasons why you're eating it."

"Oh." Sounding hurt.

"Bella? What's wrong?"

"I just…I – "

"Love,"

"HA!"

"Bella!"

"And you always said I couldn't act! Well look who has the grapefruit now!"

Muttering. "You couldn't act…"

"What did you say?"

"Nothing. Go ahead, eat it if you really want, but I think that the real reason behind the decision is that you miss your mother. And being human."

Groan. "Or maybe I just really like grapefruit."

"Fine. Have it your way."

"Edward, you know I love you. And you know that I love being a vampire, and that the two are worth everything to me. I just want to remember a little bit of what it was like with Renee. Because I do miss her. But this is all it is. A grapefruit."

"I suppose, if you really want it..."

"I need that knife."

"You know, you are the strangest vampire I have ever met."

Slicing noise. "Well, you are the most beautiful vampire I have ever met."

"Oh really? Then, you wouldn't…mind…if I did…this?"

Faint laughing. "As long as I can do…this."

"And what about this?"

More laughing. Thumps on counter followed by loud squashing noise.

"Mmm stop…"

"Don't stop. Why would we stop?"

"The grapefruit. It's on-on the floor…"

"Leave it. I'll get it in a minute."

"Typical Bella, ruled by hormones."

Breathy sigh. "I wish you were too."

"Well then we would never leave the bedroom."

"Precisely. My. Point."

"If that's what you wanted, you could have just said so. The grapefruit portion was unnecessary."

Eye roll. "What ever you say, Mr. Cullen, just make the bedroom our next stop."

A/N: Hey guys. To any and all who are following my other story, Starting Again, I would just like to say that I truly apologize that I haven't updated it recently. I've been feeling somewhat inspired, and this story is the only thing I've written since my last update on Starting Again. I am really going to try and finish the other story, but for now, I hope you enjoyed this one. It's something simple - and I hope it leaves plenty to the imagination! That's what I'd intended when I wrote it. Please Review!
