It takes time, but things eventually settle into a routine. In her new home, Megan keeps her distance from Evan, spends time with Doug, Miller, and Sean, spends even more time with Finn, and finally grows comfortable in her new environment.

At school, she becomes better friends with Amy and the girls, develops a workable rapport with Hayley, works hard in her classes. It's not Texas, not Fort Hood and Tracey and her former, beloved soccer team, but it's something, and generally, she's happy.

Finn McGowan has a lot to do with that. They haven't labelled anything, haven't gone on dates, haven't done much of anything to incur John or Regina's disciplinary action, but they hang out a lot - in the shed, in her bedroom, or his - and it's nice. She's learned a lot about him - the books he likes, the shows he watches, his thoughts on modern social issues - and although her romantic feelings for him are omnipresent, although her physical attraction remains, she's also confident in the knowledge that those things aside, Finn's become her closest friend in Boston.

In fact, Megan's sprawled out across his bed, texting Tracey, as he chips away at an English paper due the following day. She's completed her own already - and the rest of her homework, too - and she's content simply to keep Finn company, the strains of Goo Goo Dolls and the soft clatter of Finn's keyboard the only sound between them. Until he sighs, exasperated, and pushes himself away from his desk chair.

"Need a break?" Megan queries. She sits up on Finn's bed, and crosses her legs beneath her.

Finn hums his confirmation. "I'll be glad to move on from Romeo and Juliet."

"Mm, tell me about it," she concurs. She watches, riveted, as Finn makes himself comfortable on the bed, leant against his headboard, "Thank God Thanksgiving is coming up. I need the break."

Uncertainly, Megan joins him against the headboard, but Finn doesn't give any indication of displeasure. Rather, he drops his hand on top of her own between them, turns to face her, and takes the time to study her face. There's a soft expression on his own - something Megan can't place - but she's reminded of the painting of her - still in the shed - and her heart hammers inside her chest.

"You know, Evan wants you," Finn says softly.

Megan winces. She's aware of Evan's attraction - or whatever it is - in a distant, abstract kind of way, but she's spent the last six weeks ignoring it. She's forgiven Evan, certainly - peaceful coexistence is the name of the game, and all that - but she can't forget that he'd been one of the main facilitators of her first few hellish weeks in Boston. In doing so, Evan had killed any surviving remnants of Megan's brief infatuation with him, or any interest in getting to know him beyond general pleasantries, and she hadn't missed either.

"How about you?" She asks boldly, meets his gaze, and then studies their hands entwined on the bedcovers, "Do you want me?"

"You know I do."

She'd known, abstractly, of course - the kiss, the painting, the brief instances of hand-holding were unmistakeable - but Finn hasn't said it in so many words. It's exhilarating to hear - probably enough to power a patronus if she was so inclined - and Megan's giddy with it.

As she absorbs his words, Finn moves their hands onto her lap, shifts closer until their side to side, shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip, their legs tangled in front of them. Megan's breaths are unsteady, Finn's are, too, and his hand shakes in hers. "What about you? Do you want me?"

"Yes," she answers on an exhale. Finn kisses her a moment later, his body angled to face her, his arm braced against the headboard behind her. It's an awkward angle, but it's everything Megan remembers and then some - warm, soft, all-encompassing - and Megan loses herself in it, loses track of time, loses all awareness of her surroundings.

That is, at least, until Caleb and Ian start pounding away on Finn's locked bedroom door.

Finn pulls away with a muttered oath, turns, and yells at the door, "Fuck off!"

There's laughter, threats to tell Regina and John, the sound of pounding feet along the hallway, and Finn flops back against the mattress, irritated, exasperated, resigned. A moment later, a staccato knock, and Sean on the other side, requesting entry.

Megan glances at Finn, whose eyes are closed, arms behind his head. He's mumbling under his breath, and he's not about to move for anything. As such, she reluctantly moves from the bed to do as asked.

Because all of his classes are in the morning, Sean's responsible for them until the parental units return home in the afternoon. Despite his general disregard for what else they get up to, however, he takes their sexual safety seriously. He gives Megan and Finn a bit of leeway, but he regularly checks in via Caleb and Ian, and it's generally agreed among the rest of them - Evan, Finn, Doug, and to a lesser extent, Miller - that it's the greatest injustice in the world.

"You can relax," she greets Sean, glances both ways along the hallway to ensure the coast is clear of any little ears, and adds, "All of our clothes are still on."

"Good to know," Sean replies drolly, "Should probably keep it that way; and the door open, too. Mom will be home soon."

Megan sighs, resigned, and offers him an irreverent salute, "Aye, aye, Captain."

Sean doesn't linger, and Megan returns to Finn's bed. She lays next to him, stares at his ceiling, entwines their fingers between them, and closes her eyes. They still haven't labelled anything, but they're on the same page, and for now, Megan is content with that.

And as Finn reluctantly returns to his English paper, as Megan proceeds to update Tracey with the most recent development in she and Finn's (not quite) relationship, there is no where else she'd rather be.
