What Friends Are For
Author's Note
I finally had a chance to get Dawn of Sorrow
and this particular cut scene stuck out in my mind.
Sorry if it's not word for word.
Arikado had given a brief summary of what had almost happened. He was angry, Yoko thought, but whether it was at Celia Fortner or Soma or both she wasn't sure.
Roughly half an hour later Soma walked into her store to release a few souls, looking shaken and depressed for what had almost happened and clearly expecting a tongue-lashing from her too.
That damn woman! She thought, softening at the sight of him. It was a dirty trick and Yoko wished Celia were here so she could give her more then a tongue lashing. It's not his fault, anyone would have freaked out.
She made him sit down and locked the door, determined that he wouldn't leave until she'd made him feel better. He was a good kid, thoughtful and sweet and eager to please, always putting others before himself. But he was insecure and always prone to beating himself up for every little thing, whether it was his fault or not and telling him not to worry about it wouldn't help. He hadn't even healed himself, she thought irritably, probably on purpose.
Then a devious thought struck her. If she couldn't convince him that it wasn't his fault then she'd just have to shock him out of it. He couldn't go off fighting when he was in a funk.
She put on a properly stern and concerned face.
"Soma."
He lifted his head cringing a little.
"There's something I want to ask you."
"Yes."
Soma suddenly noticed that her eyes were sparkling and he became very wary.
Smart kid. She silently complimented.
"How far have you gone with Mina?"
"What?!" His shocked face was priceless.
She stifled a giggle.
"W-why would you even ask that?" He stammered, face redder then a tomato.
"Because Mina is like a little sister to me." It was getting harder to keep a straight face.
"Then as a sister go ask her." He slunk in his chair, truly embarrassed.
Ah, it was such fun teasing him.
"In fact, why don't you mind your own business."
She pretended to look chastised, but Soma noticed that her eyes were full of laughter.
Sigh. "I guess your right. Sorry."
Soma practically fled the room, completely forgetting the reason he was there in the first place.
Yoko was laughing, barely able to support herself. Her mini-mission a complete success.
It wasn't until later that he realized Yoko's intentions and laughed a little at the ridiculousness of it. She was a good friend and he'd have to thank her when he saw her next.
