Starlight
The air was still and silent as Dean and Cas lay on the hood of the impala, looking up through the trees to the shining night sky, littered with stars. Sam was gone at some woman's house who he had met a week ago, leaving the elder hunter and angel alone.
A case just solved Dean had chosen to star gaze, and only found it polite to invite Cas to join him when the angel appeared. The two had a small awkward pressure that seemed to hover over them, both laying against the window of the car and looking up, arms pressed against one another though the silence seemed to separate them.
"Dean" Castiel finally spoke, and the pressure was gone. Dean glanced at the man and gave a smirk.
"I want to let you know..." Cas seemed almost nervous. "I want you to know they say it's ok." He said with a small sigh, looking up to meet Dean's eyes.
"Who says what's ok, Cas?" Dean asked, raising an eyebrow, his smirk slowly fading.
"The other angels," Cas said, taking a breath. "They... they say it's ok." He hesitated and let his eyes drift away from Dean's gaze. "They say that it's ok that I love you." He said, while his voice was still strong and gravelly, it was strangely worried and distant.
Dean blinked. He licked his bottom lip like he did when he was nervous and his eyes shone with confusion, "W-"
"And I say it's ok..." Cas cut Dean off before he could question his statement. "I think it is ok if you don't love me back."
"Cas, I-"
"I know, Dean, that you don't love me back. But I just wanted you to know, it's ok. They say it's ok." Cas said, then looked back up at the stars, his blue eyes reflecting the night sky and giving nothing.
Dean stared at Cas a long time, before he took a shaking breath, and let his eyes drift back to the sky as well, inside himself he could feel the hatred that he couldn't bring himself to tell Cas he loved him to. Though what he didn't say, Cas could feel, and the angel gave the smallest of smiles, looking into the sky. Though they did not look at one another, Dean was not unaware of how his fingers somehow found there way laced with Cas'.
I was bored and thought it was a cute idea. I'm going to try to actually start posing my fics from now on, and your support of fallowing me or liking my stories is greatly loved and is tremendous encouragement.
