5 Avengers Loki mind-controlled into being on his side - and the 1 who eventually joins him just because he misses his brother so much

1.

"You have heart," Loki says as he slides the scepter through muscle and bone.

2.

"Last time you thwarted my efforts."

Magic holds Stark in place, but he manages to tilt his chin defiantly. "Yeah, I did. Because I'm just that good."

Loki smiles and clasps long fingers over Stark's nose and mouth. He brings the chalice closer and waits for the right moment, for that edge before suffocation when Stark cannot resist opening his mouth to breathe. "This time, you shall not be so lucky."

3.

"Shh," he whispers. "Do not fight it. This has happened to you before, you know it hurts less if you give in peacefully."

Natasha jerks against him, but no mortal can match the strength of a god. He peels open one scratched eyelid she had in her desperation thought to swell shut and forces her to look at the light.

4.

The Hulk may have the physical advantage, but while Dr. Banner's mind is lost in the rage Loki has more than enough wits to outsmart it. It roars and swings ineffectually at the illusions Loki summons, of himself and men hated worse than him. He weaves his trap and leads the Hulk closer to it.

When the net closes, Loki laughs. This time, the Hulk fights for him.

5.

Loki allows blue to creep into his skin and red flare from his eyes. He exhales, and the room grows colder. "This will not be pleasant, Captain," he says. "But then, we both know ice never is. Don't we?"

The Captain struggles but Loki's black-nailed hand moves closer and the crystals of ice along with it. Loki grasps the Captain's head in a crushing grip, and he screams as the ice covers him.

+1.

"Enough, Loki," Thor tells him. "I do not wish to fight you any longer. We should be on the same side."

Loki bares his teeth and flicks blood from his fingertips. "I will not change, brother. You know this."

Thor's sigh has the same ominous weight as the wind that carries storm clouds with it. "I know, brother. And because you cannot change it is I that must."
