I Do not own Any of Rick Riordan's work. I do own the plot and OC's of this story however.
Introduction
Hi, I'm Percy Jackson. I have been through a lot of scary shit since the time I was 12. I lost a ton of friends, lead and fought two wars against monsters most of you had never even heard of until reading my stories. They are bad news and I haven't even told you about the worst of them yet. This is my story after the wars, this is my story after losing Annabeth, This is the story of me recovering from the traumas of the wars, this is my life; so no don't expect very much peace, don't expect a happy ending, don't expect everything to go the right way. I am a Demigod only tragedy stems from these stories.
Camp Half-blood the day of Percy's disappearance.
Grover walked up onto the porch of the Poseidon cabin looking to see if Percy wanted to join him on an early morning run. He knocked once on the withered door to hear no response. He put his ear to the door to see if he could hear him snoring or if there was any movement. There was none. "Percy?" Grover bleated out. Again, no response so he sent a quick prayer up to Poseidon to ask permission to enter the cabin and then pushed the door open. When he wasn't forced out by a wall of water he walked in and over to Percy's bunk. It was empty with a piece of paper with some of the worst handwriting he had ever seen. He immediately got worried as he rushed over to read the note, expecting the worst.
To Whom It may concern,
It's Percy "Seaweed Brain" Jackson. I'm leaving the camps. I have spent a lot of time thinking since the second Giant war and come to the conclusion that I am not at home here anymore. I grew up here, I fought for all of our survival over countless quests and two wars. Yet since Annabeth's death, I have lost connection to who I am here, I have lost my sense of self and have been drifting. I have struggled with PTSD since the titan war and every conflict sends me into a Hell I can never escape in my own mind. I am going to find help. I am going to find myself again. I need to get myself together before I can come back to Camp half-blood, camp Jupiter, or Olympus in general. I love you all and you know I will be back but please let me handle this. I don't know how long I will be gone but I will return. I will not turn my back on my family. Please don't look for me, but don't forget me either.
Yours truly,
Percy Jackson
Grover let out a sigh of relief knowing that his friend hadn't done what he originally thought. He looked around the room noticing that some clothes had been taken as well as some pictures. The pink piggy bank that held Percy's dramachas and mortal money was noticeably empty. He knew based off the note that Percy did this by his own accord and it had nothing to do with the Gods, unlike last time when his disappearance was the first domino to fall that lead to the Second Giant war. Grover let out a sigh out of worry and said to himself "Oh Percy, why didn't you talk to anybody."
Grover walked out of the light blue limestone cabin on to the familiar porch that was decorated with seashells, fishing nets and a few rowing oars leaning next to a few beach chairs and headed towards the big house to tell Mr. D and Chiron that a camper, no a Hero had left camp in the cover of the dark to go to a world that was constantly trying to kill his kind.
When the Goat boy whose goatee had filled in in the past year since the Giant war and horns that were easily visible now in his shaggy ginger hair finally made it to the big blue house that resided in the shadow of half-blood hill he walked up the wooden porch steps to see Mr. D with a mug filled with tea and Chiron in his compacted form in his wheelchair sipping on black coffee holding a novel that read "The Hunger Games." in his hand as the early morning fog slowly lifted. Neither the Olympian nor the centaur noticed Grover till he coughed by them rousing them from their book and their thoughts respectively. Chiron nodded towards him with a small smile and a nod before he said "Grover, what brings you here? You don't visit us as often anymore."
Grover nervously scratched his chin and shook his head deciding just giving them the note was the best option. "there's something you need to see guys." he said as he passed the carefully folded note to the centaur.
Chiron unfolded the paper before putting on some turtle patterned reading glasses. The more he read the more he seemed to slouch in his chair and by the time he was done he sighed and seemed to be in deep thought while handing the note to Mr. D, he scratched his salt and pepper beard and he seemed to age 10 years in the 2 minutes he took to read the note. And after about 30 minutes of silence from him which was actually 15 seconds, he looked to Grover and said: "Thank you for bringing this to us."
Grover nodded as he noticed Mr. D throw the note onto the table and a look of concern overtook his face for about a second before he went back to his careless normal self and then looked back to Chiron. "What are going to do about this?"
Chiron shook his head. "We should let the Gods and campers know that the savior of Olympus is in the wind."
Mr. D did one of the sharpest inhales Grover had ever really seen anyone take. "Okay ill bring it to the council, you tell the Campers?" he said as he took a sip of the still steaming cup of Tea and flashed out.
Chiron rose out of his wheelchair and told Grover to gather the campers in the pavilion and then headed towards the pavilion himself at a heavy gallop.
Grover walked into the big house looking for the horn that alerted campers to meet in the pavilion. He walked outside and blew on it. He sighed and said "this is going to be a long day and I have only just woke up.
Olympus Throne room- Council meeting
Dionysus walked into the throne room and walked towards Zeus' throne. When he arrived at the throne, he simply took a copy of Percy's note out of his jeans pocket and handed it to Zeus who promptly called a council meeting.
The Gods gathered around and discussed what they were to do. They seemed worried for their demigod savior's wellbeing and yet had no clue how to go about helping him. Hermes suggested they take shifts watching over him to make sure that nothing bad would happen. Zeus suggested that they actually leave him be, this earned very little support from the Gods seeing as they all felt they owed Percy a debt. They spent hours discussing and talking all the while Poseidon sat slouched in his throne deep in thought. When Apollo finally asked him what his opinion on the matter was, he just shook his head and said: "I need to speak with my son." he proceeded to get up and leave the throne room.
Sally Jackson's Apartment
Poseidon knocked on the door and waited. The sea god stood calmly as he heard a muffled "coming!" through the door followed quickly by footsteps till the door opened revealing Sally Jackson, his lost love. Poseidon smiled warmly at her and simply asked her "Have you seen Percy I need to talk to him?"
Her shocked face changed to one of understanding as she opened the door a little further allowing the Olympian to come in. She then turned around and followed Poseidon into the living room where Paul; Percy's stepfather, was sitting. Paul gave Sally the same look she gave Poseidon but she shook her head and then proceed to call Percy into the room. He walked in in blue jeans, black vans, and a bright orange camp shirt. His hair had been cut short in the messiest way possible, his sea-green eyes looked tortured, and the deep dark circles indicated that he hadn't slept in a few days. He was thinner than he usually was and there were a few fresh cuts on his upper right arm. His face had a long deep scar below his right eye that traced across his nose and ended over the left side of his lip. He generally had seen better days.
Percy- Sally Jackson's apartment
"Dad?" I said bewildered. I thought I made it clear that I needed some time alone in my note as he looked at me and nodded.
"Percy, we need to talk," he said as he nodded towards the door. I just nodded, grabbing my hoodie and throwing it on as I walked towards the door.
As I walked out the door and into the hall apartment hallway and started walking with my father next to me I asked: "So, what's up dad?" I asked kind of confused.
He looked at me "We got your note and understand why you need a break, I just wanted to make sure that you know I'm always here for you in whatever way I can be. Even if I can't constantly be present in your life."
I smiled a little at that; it was nice to know My dad had my back even. I really wanted to tell him what I was planning on doing, or who I was joining in this case. "Thanks, Dad. I know and it means a lot to me knowing you have my back."
"How are you going to stay safe outside of camp?" Poseidon asked with a look of worry on his face. The risk of a monster attack was immense and he didn't want to lose his son.
I did a dry laugh that held no humor. "You do know I'm never going to truly be safe right dad?"
"I know son. I wish you would have taken godhood when you had the opportunity son." my father said kind of sad.
"You know why I couldn't have taken it then. I thought with the end of the titan war me and Annabeth could have a shot a peace, at a semi-normal life. I had hope back then dad." I said feeling the scar that ran across my nose. "this is proof that hope and peace will not come to me." I looked down as we reached the end of the hall.
"I wish you got the pleasure of never knowing about any of this. Never having to fight in any wars, never having to kill, never having to lose the ones you love. I am sorry I forced you into this fate." he said looking down shamefully.
"Dad, I have had a great life. One that will never be forgotten, but it's hard sometimes and I need a break for a while. I can't tell you where I'm going or who I'm going with but trust me when I tell you Ill come back better than ever." I said this with a small smile as I told him this.
"Be safe son. I love you. I believe you will be successful wherever ever you go." my dad said as he turned to walk down the stairs and out of the apartment.
I turned around headed back to my mom's apartment as I had to explain why I needed to leave. As I walked down the hall, I smiled knowing my dad had my back. I started whistling Darth Vader's theme song as I walked down the hall and after about thirty seconds I was back at my mom's door; ready for one of the longest conversations of my life.
When I walked into the apartment my mom and Paul were waiting on the sofa ready for the talk I told them I needed to have with them. I took my shoes off by the door and walked over to the recliner sitting opposite from them.
"Alright. So here is the run down. I was made an offer by someone much more powerful than the Olympians and I am going to take their offer." I said nervously.
My mom looked at me quizzically "like a job?"
"Yea like a job. Except I won't be able to come home for a long while. I won't see you guys again." I said looking down slightly sadly.
My mom looked down with shock and heartbreak evident on her face. "You are leaving, and you aren't coming back?"
I shook my head and ruffled my hand through my hair. "It's something I need to do. I already told my new leader that i'll take the position but I'll need some time to tell you what is happening. I have tonight before I leave."
My mom gave me a small smile and nodded her head. "I understand and support you. As long as you stay safe and learn to move forward and be happy."
I laughed nervously. "That went… better than expected to be honest." I was full on grinning now. "Thank you, mom."
She gave me a great smile, hugged me, and walked away. I could hear little sniffles trying to cover her cries but it wasn't working. It honestly broke my heart to see her like this. Paul turned towards me and stood up and I joined him. "You are a great kid to have around Percy. I'm going to miss you." He leaned forward and wrapped me in a quick hug and walked away to comfort his wife and I turned towards my bedroom and went to bed for the last time under my mother's roof.
