The phone rang rather early today and knowing it was likely the station Lucien slid out of bed trying not to disturb his slumbering wife to answer the bloody thing.
'Lucien Blake,' he bellowed, then waited for the reasoning for such an early call.
'Alright Matthew, just let me get Jean and we will be right down.'
'Jean my dear, wake up.'
'What Lucien, if you must go, go!'
'Jeanie they have asked for you, not me.'
'Wait, but why in the world would they need me?'
'We shall soon find out,' smiled Lucien.
Lucien and Jean arrived at the station and were automatically greeted by Matthew. He urged them into the main office and clarity dawned on Jean. She stopped dead in her tracks not wanting to proceed any further. Lucien clearly was taken back seeing his wife's initial reaction to the individual sitting in the chair by Bill's desk.
'Matthew, why did you call me?'
'You are the one he wanted contact.'
At that point Lucien was completely confused as Jean harshly walked up to the man sitting in the chair and yelled, 'why me'. He looked somewhat terrified, but answered 'Jeanie, come off it'. 'Come off it, that's the best you can do after twenty-five years, who do you think you are?' Jean stood there gritting her teeth and clenching her fist intending to keep her anger at bay, but barely succeeding. Lucien took the moment to grab his wife by the shoulders and turn her to face him, knowing he was taking his own life in his hands. Dear, let's calm down and find out what is going on before we take this any further. Knowing at this rate Jean was going to be arrested for murder if she didn't calm down.
Matthew led Jean to a chair, putting a greater distance between the man in the other chair and Jean. Lucien stood to her side just in case he was needed to intervene. Then Matthew enlightened them all too why exactly they were there so early in the morning.
Apparently Jack here was found trespassing on the Dempster farm, and he seemed to scare the new owners. After I explained who he was and that he didn't currently know who owned the farm and that he was related to the previous owners, it was probably just a mistake. They will not press charges, but I figured given who he is I had better do as he asked and call Jean. Matthew could see the confusion on Lucien's face, therefore he introduced the man. Lucien I would like for you to meet Mr. Jack Randall, Jean's brother. Lucien sat there flabbergasted. Jean had told him she had brothers, but nothing more.
Matthew told Jack he was free to go, but to stay away from the old Dempster place. Jack looked at Jean and smiled, which in return made her angrier. 'Aren't you going to introduce me properly Jeanie?'
It appeared to Lucien that he may have just been introduced to someone who irritated his wife more than he ever had, but now he wanted to find out why.
'Why, you won't be staying.'
'Come on sis, don't be like this.'
Lucien walked towards Jack and reached out his hand in introduction.
'Hello, Doctor Lucien Blake. I am Jean's husband.'
'Nice to meet you, but sorry it's under these circumstances.'
Jean edged towards Jack making him cringe thinking she was really going to let him have it now.
'What circumstances Jack?'
'The reason I came here was to see you, and let you know that Jess is headed back.'
'No, why would he ever come back?'
'You know why and further more you had better get Matthew to post a man. He will be looking for you, and you aren't going to be safe.'
Lucien stepped forward now hanging on every word with worry.
'Who's Jess, and why should he be after you?'
Jack seemed to notice the worry on the doctors face and decided he should explain figuring Jean wouldn't. But before Jack could speak, he was interrupted by Matthew.
'Did I hear you say Jess was headed back here?'
'Yes Matthew,' replied Jack.
'Oh, I don't know what all the fuss is about it's just Jess. He is my baby brother and I know how to handle him.'
Lucien took hold of Jean's hands and pulled her firmly to his side.
'If you can handle him, then why are Matthew and Jack so concerned for your safety?'
Jean looked into her husband's loving blue eyes, wondering how to explain the situation in a manner that would pacify him. She decided that it was best not to discuss the situation any further at the station. So she urged Lucien to take her home and much to her dismay bring Jack with them. Matthew said he would stop in later to discuss the situation, because he knew that Jean was stubborn and it would take a great deal of persuasion to get her to accept a security detail.
Jean urged the men towards the living room while as usual went to put the kettle on. Lucien decided to question Jack further before Jean could interrupt.
'Jack, what happened between Jean and Jess that would warrant such concern?'
Jack glanced towards the kitchen to get a feel as to how long his sister would be occupied. He knew if he was caught telling Lucien she would be past angry, but he relented.
'Jess is the youngest, therefore he ran around mostly with Danny, Christopher Jr., but mainly young Jack. They were thick as thieves, those two boys. Jeanie was more like his mother than his older sister. She took him in when our parents died. I took off and left her to deal with everything. She was barely twenty-one when I left, but I never came back to help her with Jess. I left her to deal with Christopher Sr.'s death on her own, and all the while raising her two boys and Jess. Jess has always been a bit wild, a handful to say the least. He was always in trouble, but eventually he started dragging young Jack into all his mischief.'
At that precise moment Jean entered the living room with the tea. She had taken longer than usual, but knowing Lucien's nosy nature he would be pumping Jack for information. Lucien now figured that Jess probably had something to do with young Jack's incarceration when he was fourteen.

But why would Jess be angry with Jean? What happened to cause Jack to leave for so long? Is Jean in danger?
